Bears cut and run from the great Urlacher

The great Brian Urlacher wants to renegotiate his contract.

Unhappy with the nine-year, $57 million contract he signed in 2003, Urlacher has said he won't go to any of the Chicago Bears' offseason minicamps unless he gets a new deal. Whether he shows up at training camp is anyone's guess.

Nobody put a gun to Urlacher's head when he signed the deal and he and his financial people should have been able to figure that the salary cap would go up dramatically in the five years that have followed (from $75 million to $115 million). But that's just what happened and now Urlacher wants his. Or he wants more of his.

OUCH .............click it 4 the full read!!!

Linebacker Brian Urlacher, who signed a nine-year, $57 million contract in 2003, is seeking a bigger payday with the Chicago Bears....

Hey, I'm right behind #54! Those Gillette blades blunt quicker on head stubble and they ain't gettin any cheaper honey!

lol
i don't know what to make of him or this situation anymore

I think pryans comment below has touched on the issue. The Bears are stumbling and BU has noticed those big plays come harder than they did a couple seasons ago. He's figuring to lock up a nice contract to see him through his last few seasons. I say they bust him outta there and look to get younger with the money they save. It's not as if they couldn't do with a QB or a RB right now.

This is true, he is getting way too ahead of himself. He is getting older. I seen Maroney beat him out the snap several times, and he is a little guy compared to Urlacher whom is just trying to strong arm the Bears. I think they should trade him to NE! ;) They like old linebackers up this way.

They certainly should get rid of him, while he holds value. I really don't think they will do so, they have a track record of making bad personnel decisions. I mean, he could be exchanged for a number of guys who could really help their offense. It's not as if this team is going to be a competitor within the next 4 years. They need to look ahead.
As far as he is concerned, he ought to be happy with 57 million, his better days are behind him and he knows it. I'm sure thats why he wants to cash in.... or cash out.

So why do these guys have agents and accountants? They sign these big value deals, then a few years later the claim it isnt enough and they're unhappy, but this usually happens when they see another guy sign for more. They should fire their agents and "money guys" or maybe themselves for not thinking things through. Nobody makes these guys sign these contracts, so they should live with it. I just dont get it.

i couldn't agree with you more gunna!!!!!!!

Only way it will stop is to put a cap on individual salaries. Not sure how that can be done, but these guys are never going to be satisfied. Part of it is the owners'/teams' fault for continuing to pay these inflated salaries. Urlacher is now 30 years old and I'm not sure he is going to find anyone that is going to pay this guy big bucks at this stage of his career. He need to quit whining and just play.

Can someone point me in the right direction where I can sign up to make $57 million in 9 years?

LMAO!!!!!!

divorce Paul McCartney?

LMFAO!!!!

You could try the NFL, but I'd ask James Dolan. You've got a shot and the contracts are guaranteed.

Just like players get guaranteed money, franchises should get guaranteed years..

Most of the NFL $$ isn't guaranteed

Well ck, u know my stand on millionaires bitchin' that they want more millions.booohoooo.

Maybe they are blaming it on the price of oil. They can't afford to fill up their customized Escalades anymore. Boo hoo!!!!

LOL to u both, i hear ya!!!

First and foremost - I AM NOT a Urlacher fan..... however here is my take - 1) Players money is NOT guaranteed (which out of all major sports - is the ONLY sport that does not have guaranteed $) 2) almost ALL if not ALL NFL contracts are back loaded. So seeing that most if not all NFL players get cut (owners choice) prior to their contract maturing I don't blame none of the player for wanting to get theirs!! 3) If there is NO loyalty by ownership - why should there be any loyalty by the players??? 4) People/fans make the argument about players bitchin' and crying as millionaires - over millions - well as a owner and your writing the checks (how much you think THEY are worth?) - why are they bitchin' and crying over paying the players their FULL CONTRACT price and not cutting them before they have to pay the player???

I surely don't have a problem with players getting paid, but I do have a problem with players signing contracts and then being dissatisfied with them as soon as someone makes a nickel more than they do. And, I think the NFL does have guaranteed money (singing bonuses) because I see it in contract negotiations all of the time. And, if it wasn't for the owners and us fans, these clowns wouldn't have a job in the first place. Half of them would be flipping burgers at McD's or selling drugs to earn their keep. In most cases, if the player is good enough and goes to another team, they end up getting paid anyway.

he needs to shut up and play ball
