Best Offseason of the Decade

Eagles have one of, if not the best, draft/off-season since 1998. With the free agency additions of Asante Samuel, Chris Clemons, and Rocky Boiman, the Eagles address the defense quickly.

It looks like the franchise is going to keep CBs Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Browb; seems that there will be no trade. With that said, the Eagles probably have the best secondary in the NFL.

The Eagles also added some offensive players in the free agency period, including TE Kris Wilson and FB Dan Klecko who will help at the team's depth. Keeping L.J Smith will help us in the Red Zone, if he can keep healthy.

In the draft the Eagles brought in 10 rookies: DT Trevor Laws, WR DeSean Jacksoin, DE Bryan Smith, OT Mike McGlynn, FS Quinten Demps, CB Jack Ikeguonu, LB Joe Mays, OT Make Gibson, OT King Dunlap, and DE Andrew Studebaker.

DeSean will have an immediate impact on the special teams, and is listed at the third WR at the slot position. DT Trevor Laws I believe is listed at the third DT behind Mike Patterson and Broderick Bunkley. The DEs will help out depth and so will the OTs, hopefully one of them is a diamond in the rough. FS Quintin Demps was most likely drafted because Brian Dawkins is at that point where he's starting to lose some of his skill.

But wait. They aren't the only rookies the Eagles picked up. 10 more rookies were signed to the Eagles, seven of them the day after the draft and three more on May 14. Three WR, a QB, an OT, CB, three LBs, and one FB. The WRs pop out because all of them are six feet or taller. The LBs once again will help our depth and make the LB crew even younger.

short, sweet & to the point, I LOVE bleacher bloggers, speaking of which ;0 !!!

rock it!

I think we're poised to make big things happen this year I know we'll have our haters but that's cool we need haters, so keep comin we love undercover fans...YA DIG!!!!! Anyway Go Eagles and good read. Haters if ya wanna know what to do wit yaself look at my headline.

Perfecto Amore!!!
I agree, we are poised, regardless of come what may, our way........that's the beauty of philly & the team!!
rock it !!

Thanks for the read CK. Besides the additions made this offseason, I think and I'm sure everyone thinks that with the key players being healthy, it's going to really pay off for us this year. I think McNabb is going to continue where he left off at the end of last season and let's hope the LJ is going to go out there and show why he was a second round choice for the Eagles.

i'd love to see our veteran players rock it on the field again!!! nothing would please me more then to see DAWK explode outta the tunnel~~~~~~
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa is it september yet !!!!!!!!!!!

Yea, pretty nice offseason my the Eagles, my buddy is a die hard Eagles fan. I'd like to think my Raiders had a pretty good offseason too. We resigned Tommy Kelly and Justin Fargas. Added Javon Walker, DeAngelo Hall, Drew Carter, and Gibril Wilson. Then we added Darren McFadden in the draft and now have a healthy Michael Bush .

killer silver&black, the raiders did rock this off season, alot of good things happening for all teams :)!!

I have to say that I admire you Raider Fans. Alot of losing seasons, but you guys bring it to every game no matter what. Kudos!

I would say that the team has had their best offseason since the Andy Reid era has begun. Although there have been some great draft classes since, the free agency acquisitions that took place this offseason could put them in great position. Samuel a no brainer, should give the team some game changing momentum. Clemons, in my view, is going to be the most exciting story. He is kind of the secret, although it has come to be that many other teams have chased after him, only the Eagles were able to seal the deal.
I think the little things like K Wilson, and possibly even Klecko could go a long way to help D jackson with creating room on special teams. Not to mention lending a hand in the red zone with some good blocking.
I'm so excited I get off on a tangent!
In due time I guess, we will find out if this is the best of recent times.

Good read. I agree. I think the Eagles have done some great stuff. Nothing really HUGE. Except Samuel. I hope we are underrated by the media. I hope we're that wild card team that blows up throughout the playoffs and takes the Super Bowl Victory. I really feel like we are that kind of team. We've got solid football players, and enough playmakers to win throughout the season and post season. Go Birds!

Oh YEAH! I'm here with my EAGLE fans waiting for a great season! Good read and awesome comments!
E-A-G-L-E-S baby all day every day!

04 was the best

I'm drooling at the thought of the coming season. I'm a million miles away from home, but there is a decent sports bar 4 blocks away from my job and their steaks ain't bad.
I can't wait to roll outta here at 5p on monday nights and see my squad.

Fly Eagles Fly, mofo's

me 2, V4, me 2 !!!!!!! never far when u have your eagles peeps !!!

training camp is not soon enough haha...the Birds are going to be increadible this season, and we have the skill on defense to take us far into the playoffs. i am drooling at the thought of preseason. i have not been so excited about Eagles football since 2004. E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!! McNABB FOR MVP! D JAX FOR ROOKIE OF THE YEAR! YA DIGG???

oh i fricken more then digg, i know fact phillyphan54 ~ i am stoked for football!!!

I think it was a very good off season but i still liked the TO, Kearse year the best. We all saw that Kearse didnt work out here and what could have been if TO would have just shut up and played.

I will wait and see how these moves pan out in the productivity department before calling it the best offseason ever.

that's kewl u wait~i for one, am not !! i have nothing but good things to say over what the FO has done this off season & believe ME, i have NEVER sung their praise !!

I'm getting all goosepimply just reading this......I CAN"T WAIT!!!! And who knows what may happen over the summer? Hopefully more good things to come. And I agree ck, I don't sing the fo's praises a lot, but they did good.

I GUESS YOU FORGOT ABOUT 03 OFF SEASON..OWENS AND KEARSE AND THE SUPER BOWL IN 2004

we didn't 4 get sht, we are just ready for sum ball & diggen what's been done to date!!!!!!!!!!

It's cool that your ready for some ball but I respectfully disagree with your take on the free agent signings. Rocky Boiman-??? Did they select him to be a fan pleaser due to his name?I don't think he's been pleasing fans with his skill as a backup LB. Kris Wilson-No game action behind Tony Gonzalez. He wont see much behind LJ and Brent Celek either.Might not make the team due to the Eagles currently having five TEs. Chris Clemmons-An enigma.Nice season last year. The year before wasn't on a team in the NFL.Hmmmmm. Dan Klecko-Followed his career as I am a big TU football fan.Bottomline: not a particularly great football player and tends to get really out of shape. Making full back on the Eagles should be pretty easy though.
I'm still optimistic that next year will be an improvement over 8-8, though I doubt any of these guys will be major contributors.

My bad, there are four TEs so I guess Wilson will be fighting with Matt Schobel for the third spot.

LMAO!!!!!! always the negative booger, that's kewl ~ have a great holiday weekend ~
BTW i'm glad u respectfully disagree, with the FA signings- u better dial the FO and let them know
peace out!

Thanks. You have a great weekend as well!

I agree that with the signings this year it has to be the best. Im really hype about the season and think that Demps, Laws, and Jackson (plus that xplayer that noone has on their radar right now) will make an impact, how big, I have no idea . I think Kriss wilson and Clemens will prove to be good role players with the birds. And i see desaun slicing up special teams alllll day....Go Birds

NICE!!!!!!! no one knows for sure, but it's the fun & the anticipation of it all ;0 !! stay positive, stay focused & healthy, we can accomplish anything!!!!!!

Oh yea I lived in S Florida during our super bowl campaign years ago, keep in mind over 7+ hours away from Jacksonville where the SB was actually played...and not only was it LOADED with Eagles fans, there was actually 2 EAGLES BARS within a mile from my condo....No matter WHERE you go, the Eagles faithful will always be right around the corner!!!

LOL!!!!!!!! that's awesome!!! and very true ;0 !!!

I'm a huge eagles fan and I agree that they have strengthened in the offseason. I think that Asante Samuel and Chris Clemons were good pickups. I also like picking up desean jackson in the draft and just the offense getting healthier in general, but come on. You mentioned Rocky Boiman, Kris Wilson, and Dan Klecko. I'm seeing at least one of these three not even making the team. And half the rookies will probably be on the practice squad.

the offence was not upgraded!!!!!!!!!!!!! we need a good wide reciever! if we kept dante sallworth maybe we would have a chance.. all this pisses me off everyone hope and wishs but every team needs a good wide reciever no nothing is going to happen every team that is hard to beat has good wide recievers..

Now were back to Dante Stallworth? How did so many of my fellow eagles fans seem to get the impression that Dante Stallworth is that good? He could not even start for us right now. Kevin Curtis blows Stallworth away. Stallworth had 36 catches for the eagles in 2006 for like 700 yards and 5 touchdowns or so. Kevin Curtis in 2007? 77 catches, 1100 yards and like 8 touchdowns. Reggie Brown had a down year this year and put up similar if not better numbers than Stallworths did when he was here. Stallworth also got bumped down to fourth on the Patriot depth chart behind one jabar gaffney. Now the Browns SERIOUSLY overpaid him. He's making like seven mil a year now. That's just ridiculous

Jabar Gaffney is good. no lie.
