I took a few days off from Eagles free agency coverage to mourn the loss of Brian Dawkins. I've always thought, even in an era where it's uncommon for any given player to play for a single team his entire career, that Brian Dawkins would retire an Eagle. It was extremely depressing when I heard the news that Dawkins had signed with another team. Although Brian Dawkins will always be an Eagles, it was a tough pill to swallow to realize that he'll be wearing another team's colors when it is his time to retire. What are the stages to recovery: anger, denial, regret, anger, acceptance? I can't believe the front office would just let him go like that: like a bad piece of meat that's been spoiled. I have a hard time believing that the front office couldn't come up with a two-year, $9 million contract to make Dawkins happy. The Eagles are thin at safety. They let Sean Considine go to the Jaguars to plague another team with his awfulness. The Eagles are c...

Jags GM Gene Smith is talking in glowing terms about new safety Sean Considine. “I got a top character guy,” Smith said when asked about Considine. “He has started 17 games in the league. Final Word On Dawkins

There is and has been a resentment of the Eagles front office and Jeffrey Lurie over the team's operating procedures, specifically in the Reid era, though never has it been inflamed to the degree it was over the weekend.  We were all wondering how this could happen, and most naturally jumped to ...

End of the line

As NFL Free Agency moves into the hyper-mode stage that makes some kinds of fans damn near nauseous with uncertainty (you know who you are, Tracer Bullet), there's been high amounts of turnover in the Eagles defensive secondary. Clearly, it's the end of an era, and it's something that requires ...

Dawk Thanks The Fans

Les Bowen reports on Brian Dawkins addressing Philly fans. It's heart wrenching: "I've just got to thank them. For so many years, we obviously connected on a very deep basis," Dawkins said the day after he left his only NFL home for 13 seasons to sign with the Denver Broncos. "For so ...

Where does Shawn Springs fit on the Eagles?

The Eagles next free agency move could be signing veteran CB Shawn Springs. Springs has been a solid corner over the years for the Redskins. Springs is visiting the Eagles. The Eagles should be able to add the experienced (12 years) 34-yeard-old CB to a low-to-moderate price. Presumably, Springs would be the 4th corner on the depth chart. The move could also assist the Eagles...

And, in conclusion, the end (at least around here)

Well, like I always said, if the Eagles let Brian Dawkins go, I’m quitting the blog. (I never actually said this.  Timing couldn’t have been worse, though.) So this was the big news to which I alluded earlier this month: BountyBowl will be schlepping its schtick over to IgglesBlog.  After a fun couple years (really, 20 months), [...]
