Browns will look into Lito or Ty Law

Two weeks into voluntary off-season practices, the Browns have lost two players they were counting on heavily.

Last week it was right guard Ryan Tucker who went down with a hip fracture. He had surgery and will be out at least until August.

This week the news is grimmer.

Daven Holly, who was at worst the team's third cornerback and more likely a starter, probably was lost for the season after blowing out his left knee during practice Tuesday.

Already shorthanded at the position, the Browns now must scramble to bring in one or two cor nerbacks with experience.

General Manager Phil Savage all but ruled out unsigned, 14-year veteran Ty Law and Philadelphia's Lito Sheppard, who has been offered in trade and wants a new contract.

Savage previously inquired about them and concluded each was too expensive to fit into the team's internal budget based on what the team already has paid out in cash bonuses to players signed and re-signed in free agency.

"We've got the cap space," Savage said. "The issue for the 'big-name player' would be the actual cash out the door, budgetwise. We're pretty much pressed up against our budget internally, so that's going to eliminate certain players, unless they have a change of heart. You don't really expect that at this point. It's only May 20. Maybe that changes by the time we get to training camp."

On Law, who played under Romeo Crennel at New England, Savage said, "Based on what he places his value at, as far as coming in and playing, it's not close to what we'd be able to pay. So I don't think it's something we'll pursue very hard."

On Sheppard, who became expendable after the Eagles signed Asante Samuel in free agency, Savage said, "Moneywise, I don't think it's something we'd be able to fit in our budget, unless there's a complete 180 from where [his contract price] was before the draft.

AAAAAAAAAAAAA runs screaming out of thread..........

haha

i couldn't help it LOL!!!!!!!! it was either run or spit out my coffee LMAO!!!!!

yeah i kinda feel the same way... as much as the browns were my fav AFC underdog team I rather seem em get Ty Law than our boy Lito

Ty Law was awesome, but he is getting up there..He should just go back to NE. :) What is with all the rumors with Lito?

Who on their roster would we want? I mean we have 10 draft picks next year so I dont want to give Lito up for that. I doubt that they'll get him thought Law seems more reasonable for their budget and what they might have to offer.

agreed to you both.......

Ty Law's asking price might be a bit high for their tastes.

haha damn you...here come the "Braylon to Philly" posts!!!! Wonder if they'd give up Cribbs?

lol dont worry about that one anyone who knows football knows braylon is like a franchise player for the browns.... still i can see where you'd think that hahaha

And how many people on here actually know what they are talking about? haha

According to AR, teams made offers for Lito, but it was nothing that blew the Eagles away where they would pull the trigger. I don't think that the Browns have much to offer that would blow the Eagles away. Unless the Browns come up with something, I don't see anything happening here.

it's a non-issue as far as lito is concerned. just look at the last paragraph in the article. there is NO WAY they can afford lito with all of the acquisitions they've made. they aren't going to unload edwards. he's their best young player. he's got the most potential compared to the majority of the talented young wide outs.

if i see a braylon to philly post....im officially done.

I dont think the eagles should trade lito to a team unless they get in return a offensive weapon

dude i got the same opinion. still waiting for June 1st, even though i know nothing will happen. just something to look forward to while there is NO FOOTBALL!! and u got a nice name haha

almost got through the week without another Lito speculation.
Oy.

I really want him to stay though. I wanna see how this crazy-ass secondary develops.
Plus, its Lito. He's a keeper.

Just a thought, but what do you think about Brady Quinn? I want to be clear. I don't think it will even be discussed but what do you guys think?

I think he looks pretty good in chaps.

Oh me too, sweetie!! In your opinion, is he worth letting Lito go?

Wow there must be some closet brady quinn fans up in here. ha ha.

not a chance, anderson's contract is up at the end of the season, brady quinn will be the starting qb for the browns next season and for the forseeable future

That is one way of looking at it.

It is obvious from the info contained in the article that the Browns wont be able to get a deal done for either player. Lito is here to stay. Under his current contract. No new deal. No whining. It will be fine.

yea this one is so mis-labeled just to get comments and attention.. dont say they'll look into it, when they've already said they cant do it. and then the article says everything completely opposite of what you title it.

My sentiments exactly.
