Lombardi on Football:

I expect big things this year from Chargers wide receiver Chris Chambers. This will be his second year in the system, but only his first time having an opportunity to participate in a full training camp and learn the playbook (as opposed to learning JUST the game plan).
Chambers is the perfect complement wide receiver to this offense. He can stretch the field and can be explosive, and for a team that has a big-time running back this style of player is critical. Chambers will make plays on play-action fakes when the defensive safeties are getting a little aggressive and try to get down in the box. His speed and big-play ability will be highlighted nicely in this offense. The Norv Turner Chargers are very good at attacking the safeties down the field, and having someone like Chambers can create problems for opposing defenses.
In the AFC West, where the safeties are not very skilled at covering and covering ground, zone or man, this can create the potential for big offensive plays. From Bernard Pollard and Jarod Page at KC, to Denver's John Lynch and Hazma Abdullah, to Oakland's Gabril Wilson and Michael Huff, there is not a genuinely skilled coverage man in the group.
Expect Chambers to make several big plays this year.

Chargers QB Philip Rivers could play as much as the first quarter in the team's preseason opener against Dallas on Saturday. Rivers did not express any concerns about his surgically repaired knee. "Other than taking a hit - which isn't going to affect my mindset - there is really nothing I'll be doing faster (than in practice)," he said.

Brandon Marshall will miss at least the first two games of the regular season, AFC West contests against the Raiders and Chargers. At the end of the day here are a few observations.... Let me know what you think.......Mark Murphy is a light traveler. He went all the way down to Mississippi and did not bring much with him. And his body language tells me that he was not able to sway Favre incorporated to stay retired.......I had fun watching Brett Favre play football with the high school kids. At the end of...
