PLAYERS: Cleo Lemon

After hearing Jacksonville signing Cleo Lemon earlier today, it dawned on me that I couldn't remember the last time a white guy led that team. Will we need to reverse the Rooney Rule to end Caucasian oppression in Northern Florida? Does Mark Brunell need therapy?

  • I live just outside Jax and tho I'm not a Jax fan, I have realized this for a while now, and with Lemon here now, it just put more emphasis on it, funny how it works.
  • The GM of the Jaguars James "Shack" Harris was the first African American quarterback to start a season as a starter and the second to start a game. Other than that I think it is just coincidental because if you look at the other quarterbacks in free agency this year other than Quinn Gray who was on the team last year, Lemon is the best fit for the offense as he is at a similar stage David Garrard was at a few years ago.
  • I didn't know that about James Harris, good lookin on the info...
  • Yeah, I think it's great that a team can have 3 black quarterbacks, but it does strike me as unusual, just because I've never seen it before.

When I'm old and gray I can tell my kids I remember the first time there were all black quarterbacks on an NFL team. (not sure if i'm correct but they'll believe me anyways)
  • haha... Last one I can remember is Mark Brunell!!!
  • HEY, I'M BLACK AND I noticed this too, lol. I'm glad somebody posted this. It's funny and yes they did make history with 3 AA, QBs. And personally I do think that they are sorta leaning toward the coffee colored slingers for various reasons.
  • they had todd bouman last year
  • He doesn't count...
  • I mentioned Todd Bouman in the article, he and Paul Pinegar were both 3rd string QB's at one point but neither of them lasted more than one season. Which is why the title says "keep" a job in Jacksonville.
  • why does this matter? as long as the QB is good, there should be no problems.
  • and let's not forget the Tim Couch era (that lasted well into last pre-season).
Personally I don't care who they put out there as long as the guy is capable and comes prepared at game time. Well that's not entirely true. I don't like Brady Quinn and wouldn't cheer for him under any circumstances.
  • CLEO LEMON BETTER NOT BE THE STARTER OR I'M NOT GOING TO BE A JAGS FAN ANYMORE!! DAVID GARRARD BETTER BE THE QB UNTIL HE RETIRES!!!!!!!!!
  • i don't think you have to worry
