Chargers Gab:
It may have looked worse than what it was.? For Chargers DE Luis Castillo, it looked at first as if it would be a major, maybe even a season ending injury - but in the end, it looks as if he'll be okay.? Castillo suffered a cutblock Monday in the win over the Jets, and his knee seemed to go backwards.? Coach Norv Turner said Tuesday that he's going to be okay.? "It was a scary moment there, obviously," Chargers coach Norv Turner said Tuesday. "He's got soreness right now. All the tests, the MRI and everything, came out where he's fine."? Castillo looks as if he'll take the field this weekend vs the Raiders.

He hasn't just shed 17 lbs and felt that's enough, Of Course; there's public relations spin behind this but it's still refreshing to hear nothing but positive things about Luis Castillo. Whether it's the bounce in his step, smile on his face, interaction in the field with Reyes or hitting in the ...
Castillo hammy barking
Luis Castillo batted lead-off again today and continues to be a pest at the plate. Castillo went 1-2 with a walk and a run scored, being on base twice in three appearances is exactly what they're looking for from the rejuvenated Castillo. However, it's not all good news as he had to leave the ...

The Gangsta strikes....Castillo
What choice does he have ? Easley's injured, he never saw Ramon Martinez play this year so he doesn't trust him, A. Reyes is hitter .240 and a weaker fielder, Jerry Manuel seems almost handcuffed by the situation to use Luis Castillo.Well the Gansta doesn't roll like that, if you don't preform you don't play. Luis Castillo has looked absolutely awful and probably...
Castillo Leading Off, Reyes Batting Second?
As per David Lennon of Newsday:
The biggest message from Jerry Manuel's opening remarks this morning was his renewed emphasis on unselfish play for the upcoming season. And the manager immediately put that to the test by suggesting that Jose Reyes may be dropped to the No. 2 spot in the lineup if Manuel believes hitting Luis Castillo leadoff will work the best for the lineup...
Interesting Mets lineup produces results
Here in the Port for the Mets - Marlins
For today?s lineup, Manager Jerry Manuel had starting pitcher Oliver Perez batting second. I saw one on line blog suggesting that maybe Manuel wanted to see Perez get one at bat, possibly a bunt if lead off hitter Luis Castillo got on
As the ...
Lowe not a NY guy ?
Ken Rosenthal reports in his latest post that Teammates of Derek Lowe believe he has little interest in playing in NY. Rosenthal goes on to say that some believe he wants to stay on the west coast. If that's the case I just hope Omar doesn't over pay to get him here, we've seen how non NY types ( see Luis Castillo ) respond to playing here.......The Yankees shouldn'...
Castillo market....add the Indians ?
One of worse kept secrets in baseball is that the Mets are shopping Luis Castillo. Anyone who saw any part of last season could tell that Castillo just isn't a fit for this team and that if his contract wasn't so bad he'd already be gone. His whole speech about re-dedicating himself was nice, ...
Mets interested in Juan Pierre
According to Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal, the Mets are interested in Dodgers Outfielder Juan Pierre.
To move Pierre, the Dodgers would need to assume a large chunk of his remaining salary a?" $10 million in 2009, $10 million in 2010 and $8.5 million in '11.
The Mets' preference in left field is for a right-handed hitter, and Pierre hits from the left side. Where...
Is Castillo at the point of no return....
Is there any chance Luis Castillo can rebound as a Met from his horrible year in 2008. Many Mets fans were incensed by Castillo contract prior to the start of the season, then Castillo had an awful year and it became hard for him to even take the field. Now most Mets fans want him gone no matter what it takes for that to happen.... Eric Simon of Amazin Ave. in a great post disputes...
Here's an alternative for 2B
Most see the Mets picking up a large chunk of Luis Castillo's contract and then signing Orlando Hudson. While that sounds like a great plan, Hudson's not the only 2B who could replace Castillo. How about a 3o y/o former batting champion and two time All-Star. It's reported that the Pirates will shop Freddy Sanchez this winter, in an off year Sanchez hit .271 but is a career...
Mets Extend An Offer To Tim Redding
The Mike Fitzpatrick of the Associated Press is reporting that the Mets have made an offer to free agent starting pitcher, Tim Redding.
Lowe and Perez aren't the only free-agent starters that interest the Mets. New York extended an offer to Tim Redding and is close to making an offer to Randy Wolf, according to a person familiar with the talks. The person spoke to The Associated...
Cornerback Blitz: July 23
The San Diego Chargers, knowing they have a limited window of opportunity to win championships, have always been an organization that looks out for their own. That trend continued yesterday, as the Bolts inked star defensive end Luis Castillo to an extension through 2014. With stars like Antonio Cromartie, Shawne Merriman and Philip Rivers just [...]
The Curious Case Of Carlos Delgado
One of the more prominent movies of the new year stars Brad Pitt, and is about an old man who gets younger through the years instead of older.
Sort of like what happened to Carlos Delgado right around the All Star break last season.
Even before the injuries took their toll on Carlos Delgado, the decline began after the 2005 season when he hit .301 for The Marlins, followed by .265...
Reds Make Offers To Weathers, Hairston
Reds GM Walt Jocketty confirmed today that the Reds have made offers to both Dave Weathers and Jerry Hairston Jr. Weathers is likely looking at two year deal with an option for a third while Hairston is looking at a one year deal. Weathers, who was 4-6 with a 3.25 ERA in 72 games this season, said he was much more comfortable in a late inning role, rather than a closing role. Hairston...
