PLAYERS: Luis Castillo

I was reading Matt at Metsblog's post on Luis Castillo's slow start to the season and I have to wonder if Louie has been set-up for failure. I posted about a week before the season that I thought it was a mistake to hit Murphy 2nd and Louie 8th. Murphy is doing well in the two hole which I expected to happen but he could also hit anywhere else in the line-up and be productive. However, Louie's skill set is more specific and is best utilized at the top of the order other wise he goes from being a productive out to an automatic out.All anyone has to do is look at his career numbers batting outside of the 1-2 spot, there is a significant drop in his BA and OBP especially at the bottom of the order. I don't believe it's a coincidence that Castillo's numbers abruptly dropped from spring training to the start of the year, the difference has been his place in the batting order. I've heard many say that Castillo needs to produce to move up in the order but if whe...

Defeat of Broncos Accepted, Rivers Trash Talk Not

In the wake of a 23-3 win over Denver that left the Chargers a victory away from the #3 seed for the playoffs, the talk is not about the resurgence of the team. Not about LaDainian Tomlinson taking over the rushing lead. Not about the great play of Luis Castillo in his first action [...]

Mets Acquire Luis Castillo

The Mets shored up their offense and filled a huge hole by picking up Twins second baseman Luis Castillo.  The fleet footed, gold glover won’t give the team much pop but the Mets have plenty of big sticks so having a table setter like Castillo in the front part of the lineup is a big [...]

Mets Sign Luis Castillo to Four Year Deal

I don’t know whether to believe any of this stuff anymore but just days after reading about how the Mets were going after David Eckstein to play second base, they sign Luis Castillo to a big four year, $25 million deal.  Castillo provides the Mets with a nice table setter and while you won&#82...

Mets Notes: Putz Closing, Cora In, Tatis 2B?

Today before the game, Jerry Manuel said that Frankie Rodriguez would get the day off after a tough workload in last nights game. J.J. Putz will be called on to close the game if necessary. I’m thinking that Putz will pick up about 10 saves this season. Luis Castillo is sitting this one out, and Alex Cora [...]

Return from Hibernation: Road to Recovery

With the Winter Meetings on the horizon and just ahead, I return from a three month hiatus from posting here on Metsmerized. I have not been short of words to say or topics to discuss, but the emotional letdown of yet another September meltdown was too much to overcome until now. My outlook for this offseason is optimistic but yet frighteningly realistic at the same time. I do believe...

Marlins Trim their Waistline

Since we didn't get the stadium deal it looks like the Florida Marlins are going to seriously cut payroll. It's no wonder with some of the big contracts we are under right now. We have dealt a few players like Carlos Delgado, Lo Duca, Luis Castillo, Mike Lowell, and Guillermo Mota. We won't even be s...
