Rotoworld.com speculates that the Jets could simply be trying to raise their asking price for Pennington by downplaying the team's readiness to trade him. Personally, I can envision scenarios in which the team cuts ties with Clemens and drafts another young QB to serve as understudy to Chad, or in which Chad is cut loose and another veteran is brought in to backup Clemens, however it's tough to imagine both quarterbacks returning next season to repeat the situation that played out this season.
