For the first time this year Wade Phillips did not have to de-activate anybody because of injury with all 53 players practicing during the week, but the inactives are not a surprise. Safety Mike Hamlin, linebacker Jason Williams, guard Montrae Holland, center Duke Preston, tackle Pat McQuistan, wide receiver Kevin Ogletree and linebacker Curtis Johnson will not play. Williams' gameday spot was lost because of Allen Rossum's addition and with Ogletree down, Roy Williams is healthy enough to start and play a lot apparently. Phillips was worried about Williams on Friday morning but listed him as probable for the game. Roy Williams will wear extra protection for his ribs. For the Falcons, safety William Moore, running back Jerious Norwood, safety Antoine Harris, fullback Ovie Mughelli, tackle Garrett Reynolds, guard Quinn Ojinnaka and defensive tackle Vance Walker are inactive. Jason Snelling will start at fullback for Ovie Mughelli.

Falcons are a fun bunch

Atlanta likes to use bunch formations to throw off defenses. They can line up a tight end and receiver tight to each side of the formation. They can go with a three-by-one look as well. The design is to create confusion among the defenders. The Cowboys do some of it as well, but not as much as the Falcons. They will keep Tony Gonzalez off the line as much as they do on the line...

Ratliff causes havoc

A few plays determine the outcome of most NFL games. The chop block called on Atlanta center Todd McClure in the first quarter merits attention. The Falcons could not handle Dallas Cowboys' nose tackle Jay Ratliff and had to resort to a double team. McClure went for Ratliff's legs when he was already engaged, drawing the penalty that put Atlanta int eh bind of a secon-and...

Battle of the big legs

Cowboys rookie David Buehler is tied for third in the NFL with eight touchbacks. Atlanta's Michael Koenen has seven. The Cowboys are holding opponents on kickoffs to an average starting point of the 22.2 yard line, which is fourth in the NFL. Atlanta has the best starting spot, allowing teams to get to the 19.8 yard line. Eric Weems is averaging 28.6 yards per kick return for...

Iso-Blog: Bobby Carpenter mugging Gonzalez

The Falcons tried their "bunch" formation with Tony Gonzalez and a pair of receivers on third down. In the Cowboys' nickel package, linebacker Bobby Carpenter draws the assignment against Gonzalez. He's had success by simply holding him up at the line. Gonzalez couldn't run a route on third down play and instead QB Matt Ryan threw underneath to Eric Weems, who...

Dallas Cowboys Gain Respect In Win Over Atlanta Falcons

Respect. That is what the Dallas Cowboys gained by defeating the Atlanta Falcons last night. The game started off poorly, with the Falcons scoring a touchdown on their first drive that ate up more than half of the 1st quarter clock. At that point, and a few more poor offensive possessions from the Cowboys, it appeared [...]

Atlanta Falcons at Dallas Cowboys Open Thread

by Paul Sakuma - AP It's going to take a healthy dose of Michael Turner for the Atlanta Falcons to prevail today.
