The Nebraska native was named a two-time Harlon Hill Trophy winner as the nation's top Division II football player. He was not invited to the pre-draft combine in February and was not one of the 27 running backs drafted. However, he had a strong pro day in Lincoln running the 40 between 4.33 and 4.38 He recorded a vertical jump of 38 1/2 inches and bench-pressed 225 pounds 20 times. Before the 2008 NFL draft ended he received a call from the Jets, and signed in April. He was looking to make the roster along with fellow undrafted players: Brandon Moore, Ben Graham, Wallace Wright, Stacy Tutt, Joe Kowalewski and Mike DeVito. The 5'7" running back went down after running the ball during 11-11 practice drills. The fan favorite pointed to his knee and was carried off the field by fullback, Tony Richardson and runningback, Thomas Jones. The severity of the leg injury is unkown, and the Jets' policy is not to discuss injuries. Woodhead, received a lot of work during the first three training camp practices on offense and special teams. The Jets are very deep at running back which consists of: Jehuu Caulcrick, Jesse Chatman, Musa Smith, Leon Washington and Thomas Jones. Danny Woodhead could be back with the Jets if he clears waivers.
