The Los Angeles Dodgers today named Michael Young to the position of Chief Revenue Officer. Dodger President Dennis Mannion made the announcement.  “Michael’s talents and unique experiences in the sports world make him a perfect fit for the Dodger organization,” said Mannion.  “He has a tremendous track record of generating revenue that will help the Dodgers stay competitive on the field while maintaining affordability for families.” In his new role, Young will oversee corporate partnership sales, ticket sales, premium seating, consumer development, and DodgerLIFE. He joins the Dodgers following 13 years in the front office of the Denver Broncos. While serving as the Senior Director of Special Projects for the NFL club, he doubled as the Executive Vice President of the Colorado Crush, the city’s Arena Football League team. While with the Broncos, Young was responsible for corporate partnerships, marketing, and branding. He also oversaw the design and implementation of the Crush’s overall marketing, brand identity, and execution of ticket and corporate sales. Young, 47, successfully transitioned to the Broncos’ front office after a 10-year career as a wide receiver in the National Football League. He played for the Los Angeles Rams (1985-88), Broncos (1989-92), Philadelphia Eagles (1993) and Kansas City Chiefs (1994). The Hanford, CA native was a two-sport athlete at UCLA, where he was a two-time Academic All-Pac 10 selection in 1983 and 1984. Following the 1985 Fiesta Bowl, where he was the leading receiver, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams. Young also played two seasons on the UCLA baseball team, batting .311 before being drafted by the New York Mets. He graduated from UCLA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology. Young credits his career in sports to the Dodgers’ legendary team physician, Dr. Frank Jobe, who currently serves as a Special Advisor to the Chairman. Shortly after separating his left shoulder as a 15-year-old sophomore at Mt. Whitney High School in Visalia , CA in 1977, Young attended a tryout for the Dodgers and after showing his potential at the plate and in the field, the team arranged for Dr. Jobe to perform shoulder surgery that would put his athletic career back on track. Young and his wife, Jill, have three daughters, Christine, Britteny, and Madison.Source: Los Angeles Dodgers Maury Brown is the Founder and President of the Business of Sports Network, which includes The Biz of Baseball, The Biz of Football, The Biz of Basketball and The Biz of Hockey.
