Cedrick_wilson
Last week LB James Harrison was arrested for hitting his girlfriend, and crickets chirped in Pittsburgh's front office. But when WR Cedrick Wilson was arrested last night for striking his girlfriend, Wilson was immediately released from the team.

Not so much a double standard, heres why

    1. This isn't the first incident involving Wilson, he has a history

    2. Harrison IS their defense...they NEEEEEED him. They can live without wilson on offense.

That doesn't mean you let the team act like Thugs because they're talented... It cripples them.

No, it just means that we all make mistakes. There are worse things that he could have done. Also the issue isn't resolved yet I don't believe. If it happens again I'm sure hes gone. You don't cut a player the first time he messes up.

Cut em all.. no place for cowards that hit women.. Now shaking your girlfriend or wife is okay.. but not hitting .. come on!
    • ;) dig it dertyjerz!!!!!

As a professional Athlete;Role Model; Law abiding citizen I would hope they have enough restraint to stop themselves from walking up to an ex-wife/ Mother of your child assault. If I was being paid millions of dollars to catch, throw, and stop a ball, I should at least have the maturity to not commit crimes in the city. They are not above you or I, so why allow them to act like they are above us? There are TOO many athletes none the less Steelers who have been making headlines, Wilson. Harrison,Holmes, even alumni like Porter, punching Bengal Levi Jones in Vegas. Right after he signed with Miami. How can you tolerate inadequate behavior? I am all for people making mistakes, but grown men should act themselves accordingly...

Hey it happens everywhere man, thats the society we live in. These guys just happen to be in the spotlight. I'm not condoning such behavior or excusing them for it, but thats just the way of the world. Think about where a lot of these guys come from, they may not have had somebody to kick their ass when they got out of line like many of us.

You say you're not excusing them, and yet you end your paragraph with an excuse.

its the truth, take a trip to Walmart...its easy to see happening everyday

What's the truth? That there are morons wandering the aisles at Wal-Mart? You sound like an intelligent person, but what's that got to do with anything? I got royal beat-downs by the old man as a child. Does that mean that if I turn around and make the same poor decision with my own child that I have an excuse (read: crutch) to lean on? No, it doesn't.

There are people in this world who are given every advantage, yet continue to make self-destructive decisions that ruin their lives. There are also those that, due to social and/or economic situations that they didn't create, have very little chance of doing much of anything, yet they pull themselves up by their bootstraps and live positive and productive lives.

This is about individual accountability. There are thieves and scumbags in all walks of life. Every tax bracket, every religion, every color, and every sexual orientation. There are also some very good people in those same groups.

In my eyes, if you raise your hands to a woman – unless you are in grave danger of being seriously injured or killed by that woman and striking her is your sole means of survival (but how often is that really the case?) – you are not a real man. Furthermore, you're not playing for any team that I own, regardless of your playing ability. There are no excuses. Excuses weaken society and build tolerance for acts that are intolerable.

It's not about where you came from; it's where you are today and where you're going.

          Respectfully,

          ~51

just stating that some can't rise above things or can't deal with having everything handed to them all of a sudden. they, in turn, act out/do stupid things and we read about them in the news. it doesnt make it right, but as a society we will never see it come to an end. relating directly to the steelers, Rooney has done just about everything right in his tenure in Pittsburgh. He's a down to earth, honest, man's man. I guarantee you he has had harrison in his office already and maybe there is more to the story than we know, or maybe shes just a crazy bitch making false accusations. he is most likely taking an innocent until proven guilty approach with james, something he had done previously with cedric. he just happened to mess up yet again
  • I'm an avid Steeler fan and there is no group of fans more totally disconnected from things than those that follow the Steelers. If any Steeler finds themselves in trouble with the law, they're immediately trumpeting the cliche of 'I wasn't there, I don't know what happened.' It's fucking despicable. But if any other teams players are arrested, it's an incessant bash-fest.

Time to come back to reality.

I can agree with that 100%, I've seen it with Big Ben first hand. Sorry, but a high class restaurant does not have to shut down just because you wish to dine there Ben! At least he won't be standing up on his bike anymore, thats one lesson learned.

What is so hard to understand? Harrison is a star, Wilson is a WR, you can find those guys anywhere. As far as the history of Wilson, it was his girlfriend who was arrested and charged with the crime, not him. What will be interesting is what happens to the next Steeler who is arrested, will he get the Harrison treatment or the Wilson treatment?
