The Raiders on the heels of the 2008 NFL draft, have signed another three free agents to come in and compete for roster spots this season. Needing more linebackers, they signed OLB, Malik Jackson from Louisville. For some reason, the Raiders still need to add more cornerbacks to the roster and signed Derrick Brown from Southern Utah. They also signed a center from Missouri, Adam Spieker.

The Raiders picked Darren McFadden, and there have been several questions from you guys in the comment box about why the Raiders picked McFadden with Glenn Dorsey still on the board. In fact, that was the first thing I thought as well. Spencer Mills aka OakFoSho of The Cold Shoulder, the SJ Sharks MVN site, fame has written his thoughts on why it was Al Davis's mandate to pick Darren McFadden.

As of 9:42pm pst, the Raiders have continued to work on their rookie class by signing three undrafted free agents. The Raiders only had five draft picks in the seven round draft and only one pick prior to the fourth round. The players signed are Chris Wagner, TE, South Dakota State; Louis Rankin, RB, Washington (I guess you can never have too many); Shane Simmons, ILB, Western Washington.

After hauling in Darren McFadden, you had to know that the Raiders weren't going to keep all of their veteran running backs on the roster. The consensus pick to be released by the Raiders was Lamont Jordan. The shocker is that Dominic Rhodes is the first back to be released by the Oakland Raiders. Al Davis made a head scratcher of a move by giving up the Oakland Raiders' seventh round pick to trade up in the fourth round to select cornerback Tyvon Branch out of Connecticut. The mood at Ricky's was electric as the Raiders were on the clock with the fourth overall pick. Roger Goodell strode to the podium to announce that the pick was Darren McFadden, running back out of Arkansas. The response was mixed as his name was announced, but he is now a member of the Oakland Raiders.

The Oakland Raiders waited until the sixth round, but they finally addressed their need at defensive end by selecting Trevor Scott from Buffalo. He likely won't be an instant contributer, but could be a solid pickup for some depth along the defensive line.
