Philadelphia Eagles' coach Andy Reid announced Wednesday that wideout Kevin Curtis is set to have sports hernia surgery and will be sidelined for an as yet undetermined, but significant, amount of time. Curtis was injured during last Thursday's pre-season game against the Carolina Panthers and tried to practice this week, but struggled mightily. "He tried to work through it but wasn't able to function very well with it during practice, so we decided to go this direction," Reid said. Reid also indicated that he was not interested in bringing in any new wide receivers at this point, which does not bode well for the offense. With Reggie Brown also out, the starters against Friday's pre-season game against the New England Patriots are Desean Jackson in Brown's spot and either Hank Baskett or Greg Lewis playing for Curtis. Brown is still nursing a hamstring injury. The Eagles signed Curtis as a free agent last season. He set career highs with 77 catches for a team-leading 1,110 yards and six touchdowns. Well there goes the offense. Joe Horn anyone?

Boldin would be nice now that Curtis is "out for a while"

If the Cards will trade him the EAGLES better pick him up. Actually, the EAGLES should give them an offer they can't refuse just to make it happen!
    • tshah83
if the eagles dont get a credible WR ... aka.. boldin, and if i were mcnabb, id get my passing game together and jet to a team that has valid credentials to be a contender for the superbowl... or else he is wasting his time w. the eagles...
      • tshah83
my heart goes out to mcnabb... get ur passing game together and jet from the eagles so u can win a superbowl somewhere
  • Spotella

BTW, this just adds to my thought as well as many other fans on here, that the game should have been cancelled or at least our starters should not have been put in the position to get hurt for such a trivial game!!!!!
  • They are not gonna get Boldin.

ok now its time to really act, we should go after boldin, and if we cannot come up with him, then lets go after Horn.

realistic I'm thinking, dude, especially Horn...and at least you guys have a damn viable backup QB...as an NFL Fan, join the 08' pre-season injuryfest!...I know you all are seeing red, as I...and we play Friday...our waterboys against yours, as there are no players left...man, I'm furious
  • PHILLYMP03
spotella... your nuts... aww lets worry about our players geting hurt... screw that i bet you wouldent say the same thing in the regular season.........be a man and play thru the rain....... ever played a rainy football game? and the reason players get hurt is because there thinking about it... if you play 110% al the time you wolnt get hurt
    • agree to a point.... theres always the chance of getting hurt, but all of the players need the reps in the preseason
    • Spotella
      Placard_complete_small
Hence me saying trivial game. I would never say that about a regular season game. But why risk it when the field was that bad for a preseason game.
There were many people screaming in a different thread that the starters should not have been put at risk for a preseason game, I was just furthering that point. I'm sorry you couldn't understand such a thing.

    • wubanga101
"Enough with the WR crap...."???!!!!! We have JUST learned that our #1 WR is going to be out for a significant amount of time you fu**ing douche bag!!!!! If at any time we should be talking about a WR its now!!!! This is devastating, if the front office doesn't make a move they clearly have no desire to be competetive this year. I have hated the FO for a number of years in terms of the wideout situation for this team. They have no sense of ergency and are completely pigheaded if they don't bring in someone. I'm not taking this crap anymore, get Boldin, or I'm going to have to be put in mental institution!!!

        • wubanga101
First of all, do you have any idea how long it takes to recover from an injury of this magnitude? Clearly you don't because you're a mindless fagg*t!! If you recall the same injury happened to McNabb in 05 that caused him to miss the final 7 games of the season, but you're probably a figure skating fan so you wouldn't remember that. Secondly, even before this injury to Curtis it was abundantly clear that we need an upgrade at the WR position after all the drops in the game against Carolina. So we're going to talk about the WR position until the FO decides to shut us all up by doing what we've all been asking for. Whether you like it or not bit*h!!

Obvioust TOMMY knows nothing and OBVIOUSLY hes no Philly fan or one of the ones who just CLAIMS Philly when their playing well. If he was a consitently watching Eagles fan, US if ANYONE knows how long a sports hurnia can take to heal, then how easily they can get reaggravated, and affect a player for an ENTIRE season. ESpecially when ur only real stength is SPEED. Sorry for the typing im in a rushhhh. But WuBanga is right on. BOTH of our starting receivers are injured, and NOONE knows how long this could linger...Gee theres a disgruntled #1 WR and both of ours are hurt, where is all this WR nonsense coming from, makes no sense right??? WHATEVER

        Placard_complete_small
Whoh Bro! Enuf with the name calling, he is a fellow Eagles fan. I do agree that this a very significant injury and not to mention it's our #1 WR. Both Mcnabb and LJ Smith lost a season to a sports hernia. It's hard enuf believing we could win with Curtis. Is ther even a chance without him?
        • TommyTheCat
          Placard_complete_small
i guess dude cant handle others opinions... i see curtis being out 4 - 6 weeks with this... i dont think the eagles will go 0-16 without curtis for a couple weeks. its a big loss, but its not a terrible loss...
        • wubanga101
I honestly feel bad about getting that worked up over this post. Yesterday was a bad day all around and I went too far. I apologize and hope we can move on from this point forward:)

          Placard_complete_small
Well name calling aside, theres ZERO reason a PHilly fan shouldnt know the devasting lingering effects sports hernais have on players...just off the top of my head,.....Mcnabb, Dirk Johnson, Sheldon Brown, L.J Smith any of those injuries last "two weeks" ??? More like ALL season atleast effected the players all season
  • Flight9
and the injuries start here...this is when desean jackson steps up and contributes as a wideout or eagles fasn beg and moan for boldin.......as a matter of fact eagles fan will beg and moan for him anyway.

      Placard_complete_small
I dont know why everyone is so sure this deal isnt going to happen. Eagles need a wideout. AZ needs any help it can get. AZ could DEF use a high draft pick. Both teams are in need of what the other has. Both teams have 2 disgruntled players. Both players are represented by the same agent. Both disgruntled players could make a HUGE impact in opposite teams. And finally, today, Anquan OFFICIALLY asked to be traded. WHy this seems so "unreal" to people is beyond me. IS it anywhere close to a done deal??? No, prolly not. Is it a TRUE possibility....ABSOLUTELY....Does that mean its going to happen?.....NOONE (besides maybe a select few FO members of either team) knows....so lets just let this play out and stop acting like were in these teams FO's and saying what the chances of this happening are bc noone KNOWS!!! All this is is a POSSIBILITY so lets just let it be and stop killin ourselves waiting to find out.....p.s. I wish i could take my own advice....

There will be several teams in the Boldin derby, including the Eagles and Cowboys. Should be an interesting two weeks coming up. Curtis is a productive receiver. Might be like Dallas losing Crayton for a couple of games. Eagles do have trade bait in Lito and draft choices and Dallas has about the same. Now watch him go to some team like New York or Miami. Tough to guage.
        • jcc1983
          Placard_complete_small
If theres any possibility whatsoever that Anquan gets the clear for a trade, NO chance in hell the Eagles let him get away to another team ESP an NFC east team man. Like Philly has the most ammo of anyone and needs him the most, if they would let him get to another team....Philly would implode. And I dont think Mr Owens would be to hapy abot getting a gamerbreaking wide reciever JUST entering his prime, just a thought....

          Placard_complete_small
Most of that is true, but I do know that Jones is very interested in getting a gamebreaker on the other side and that would be sweet. I doubt it will happen, but you never know.

          Placard_complete_small
Yea I feel you five, but that just wouldnt be fair bro. I mean, I truly truly believe if there is any chance whatsoever, theres just no way the Eagles will let him slide to another team, of ALL teams the Cowboys u kno?? I mean dont get me wrong, I know Jerry has NO problem spending for talent and is ALWAYS trying to improve his team. But on this particular trade possibilty which is all it is, I really dont think see any chance whatsoever that Boys could land Boldin. Not in the dire situation the Eagles are in and the repircussions that the FO will have to endure from the fans. As a disclaimer, I know nothing more than anuone else and am not trying to come off that way, but I have a feeling in my gut that things are being talked about between the Birds and Cards, and I think it will be damn near impossible to pass up on what the Eagles have to offer, for a player thats talking to the media everyday, saying he has zero personal relationship with Wizz, and the FO, and O think in the end the Cards will end up taking the kings ransom, get rid of their "self created cancer", and take advantage of all the Eagles will be sure to offer (prolly not even including Lito, nut maybe a player noone id currently thinking of. Of course could be 100% wrong, but im NEVER one to put any validity to these WR to Philly rumors, I just have this feeling I cant kick that this time is MUCH different than all the others....we shall see...

It's hard 2 believe our starters day 1 might actually be Desean and Avant, if Reggie isn't 100%.
  • Actually... I would love to see Jackson and Avant start. I've been adamant about returning Curtis to the slot for a while, and starting Avant or Baskett opposite Brown. Seeing Avant/Brown on the outsides with Jackson and Curtis in the slots would create HUGE mismatches, with Westbrook in the backfield.

However, I'd even be fine with seeing how Jackson does on the outside. I'm actually looking forward to it.

I know this current of frustration bro!...it's as if I have my finger on the panic button, before the show even begins...I'm trying to stay upbeat*#!?, but not in our nature up here...and as you locally too, no doubt, many moans and groans going on all over here in Beantown...injury this, injury that, might as well hit me over the head with a wiffleball bat!...f***...Brady's foot is probably a prosthetic now! by the way we are handling this stumble out of the gates

we are very quickly pissing away the career of a potential HOF QB(and our chances at winning a SB this century) by holding back and hoarding draft picks.... preparing for the future(what future).
we have plenty of cap space and trade bait and we're sitting on our Fn hands.

yup, as FO here have been sitting on their collective hands doing squat about obvious holes!?...I have no idea what Pioli is doing these days!!...I am not used to this inaction, compared to the last 7 years or so, of not addressing these gaping needs NE team has...I've been guilty of assuming too much, with team always making solid moves...now? my perception/outlook has changed rapidly...it's feels like I'm back to the "pre-BB/TB/Pioli/whatever days of doubt and dark 2-14 seasons"...now, there's some humble pie for my A**...a big friggin helping is a knocking, and it might be coming in...a side point, though, to counter a misperception about alot of Football fans up here: even in this decade of NFL success, a lot of us still beat up the success, somehow, someway...it's in our nature...with all the teams up here...that's the consensus with "most" fans I know personally up here, as I can't say that for every fan, obviously...I bet our local media outlets are very similar, put it that way

We are not going to be able to get Boldin, and Horn sucks. It saddens me to think of the numbers Donovan could've established if he had a consistent number 1 throughout his career. Not to mention the wear and tear we could've saved Westbrook if he wasn't asked to be our entire offense. Philly, you screwed up bad...we really didn't need Asante...We needed a #1...Andy, your time is up..

While they're going after Boldin, why don't they get Chad Johnson, Steve Smith, and Brandon Marshall to boot? 4 receiver offense - Andy Reid would love that. Plus, if they got those 4 receivers and a couple All-Pro defensive players, they might just find a spot in the Super Bowl. Yhatzee!

I just signed up for this site, have never read anything like what i posted - I was just responding to the article mrs. wag and rhc.
