Eagles Cut Jeremiah Trotter

Has Trotter lost a step even at 29? The eagles think so...

This should be a good bidding war for his services.

Why would they cut him, go get him Belichek

John Fox, ''This means you!''

no sense in hating! this was obviously a decision that came from the front office. Trotter will definitely find a home in the L. Unfortunately, it's not with the Eagles.

What are they thinking!?!??!?!!! AHHHHH!!!! I can't believe the eagles did this!!

As a Falcons fan, I'm quite happy... ;) Hopefully he can go play on some AFC team.

One word. Vick.

Ha Ha Ha.

No two words. Harrington. Ha Ha Ha

I trust in the coaching staff. They must have been convinced during camp that he's lost too many steps. Plus he really had a poor year last year.

this would be a nice pick up for the pats i think...but we will have to see

I just can't believe it, but I trust that coach Reid know what the is doing

I love the guy... but if you watched Trotter last year you'd know why they let him go. It's sad to say, but his knees are shot.

Bidding war??? haha remember when they cut him before? he sucked for 2 years then got cut and came back.. he is made for this defense, no way he succeeds anywhere else..

Doesn't Trotter always play better after he gets cut? They're just prepping him for this season.

Trot is actually 30. His knees have really hurt him, and Omar Gaither is up-and-coming. I think he will just retire.

I can admit he'd lost a step last season and became a one trick player, but there was also very little pass rush from the defensive line once Jevon Kearse got injured. A lot of guys on last years defense played less than their best football on the defense last year. They couldn't have let him be a veteran from the bench for a season like Ike Resse served during the Super Bowl run? These seemingly shrewed off-season cuts better pay off. While I understood the avoidance of a media circus, I thought the manner in which Jeff Garcia was cut was kind of rude and I personally disagree with the way veterans who are team leaders get quickly shown the door. Maybe Hugh Douglass played a season too long but with the exceptions of Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor, replacements usually have their growing pains. I'm saying that and I like Omar Gaithers potential. At the very least, once they update the rosters on Madden I can't use the 3-4 anymore :\

I also believe in the coaching staff, but the management for the eagles are CRAZY. You have all of these roster spots and most of other linebackers won't do anything. Trotter had 161 solo tackles we couldn't keep him on the roster; boot one of the punters. This was an issue of money, and the eagles get beat every year not because of the other team but because of money spent. I hate T.O. but if we paid him we would have a Championship.

It was clear he couldnt play anymore, and the young guys were outplaying him. He did not have 161 solo tackles, that was his total tackles. And you are nto a real eagles fan if you say we should have payed TO. We payed TO with teh 7 year 49 mill contract. And this team is way better then the 2004 team anyway.

I hate to see what you describe manifest itself, but its the truth. In the Eagles defense TO brought the media circus premature and he got shown the door. I don't think it was any coincidence that Westbrook got his deal right after TO was cut. Had TO been a normal human being, Westbrook would have been the guy holding out the next year. Now had TO waited a year or so maybe I would have backed his antics but he did sign a 7 year contract. What I want to know is why can't they afford both? Isn't it funny how the one season the Eagles go apesht in free agency it is the same year they go to the Super Bowl? Spend a little.
What happened to the new CBA meaning that teams have more money to spend? The notoriously frugal Pats went on a shopping spree and to my knowledge Asante Samuel will still play the season. I once read an article that was basically saying the Eagles don't make a lot of moves because they are still paying for the new stadium, I originally wrote it off but I do wonder about it sometimes because there really isn't much risk or reward in being Salary Cap Kings.

I think it's worth any team with a need at the LB position to attempt to sign Trotter to a risk free 1 year deal. If he was worth signing to a long term deal I really don't see Philly cutting him and given their proven track record, it's hard to argue with their personnel decisions.

And because of the past record, I wouldn't be surprised if Trotter got a deal for another team and went straight to IR. I think it is because a lot of Eagles players simply fit the system, in other places they don't shine as hard or over work themselves into injuries. Maybe they offered a less involved role and he declined, I don't know the details. Yesterday I felt like the defensive depth was in good shape, get rid of Dhani, bring in Takeo, and now I feel like the LB position could be on thin ice.

Im not worried. These LBs are better then the ones we had in 04. Omar Gaither is clearly a future Pro-bowler the way he played last year, and he was out of position last year. Trotter was an emotional, passionate leader and player. He will be missed. The saddest part for me now is that who will come out of the tunnel on gameday with the eagle's flag in his hand, exciting the crowd into a frenzy.

How about the Chargers. Jeremiah, let's go to the Superbowl

I am sure their is a team that will jump at the oppurtunity to get this veteran.

Jeremiah is a class act and that fact cannot be disputed. He has been playing on a bad set of wheels for years and performing at the top level in the NFL. It is sad to see him go, and I wish him the best.

Thank you Trot for all the memories. You will always be an Eagle.

Let me start this rant by saying, I am a HUGE Trotter fan & I am sorry to see him go!!
That being said, Some other players that I was also sad to see go were: Duce, B. Taylor, T. Vincent, H. Douglass, etc. & ya' know what folks...We are STILL a great team!!!
Yeah, Eagles Mgmnt. Pisses me off alot of times, but they must know what they're doing because we are perennial playoff contenders, (disregard 2005), so maybe there was a reason...
We lost #54 a few years back due to a money issue.
Now we lost him to a betrayal of his body!!
Last year, Trot was NOT the same player he's been & NO it was not a "down" year for him. His knees are shot & he needs to move on. (It's still a business people!)
The ONLY reason to be mad at Reid or Banner is that they didn't try to get anything for him!!
I understand that cutting him now vs. closer to the season allows him a chance to hook up w/ another team before the season starts, but maybe, just maybe, some other team might have given something up for him.
I bleed Green & so do most of you who blog here & ya know what...so does Jeremiah!!
He will always be an Iggle!!!
