In a move that may be insurance in case disgruntled cornerback Sheldon Brown holds out, the Eagles acquired cornerback Ellis Hobbs from the Patriots for two 5th round picks, choices 137 and 141 overall. Hobbs has been a starter for the Patriots the last two seasons, picking up 4 interceptions in that time. He is entering the last year of his deal so he will likely be an Eagle for only one season. While the Patriots secondary was considered pretty awful last season, the acquisition of Hobbs gives the Eagles a crowd of players at the cornerback position. If the Eagles keep Brown, they will have 4 players to fill three spots when you....Click for more on the acquisition of Hobbs.....

Patriots Trade Ellis Hobbs To Eagles For Two 5th Rounders; Draft OL In 4th

The New England Patriots announced via their Twitter page that they have traded veteran cornerback Ellis Hobbs to the Philadelphia Eagles for two 5th round picks (137, 141) in this year’s draft. Hobbs was set to be a free agent at the end of this season and will join former Patriot Asante Samuel in the secondary. The [...]

Ellis Hobbs is a Quote Machine

Over the last couple days, a number of Ellis Hobbs‘ quotes have surfaced across the blogosphere regarding his trade from the Pats to the Birds. I think Hobbs is a good, not great, cornerback who is very much opposite of Sheldon in his style of play. Hobbs is a gambler, while Brown is more of [...]

Eagles Explain How the Deal to Land Pats Hobbs Came About

The Eagles got a gift over the weekend when they were able to strike a deal with the Patriots for CB and return man Ellis Hobbs. Pats coach Bill Belichick said that dealing Hobbs was something that the team was not thinking about on draft day. As for Eagles coach Andy Reid, he had his [...]

Quotable: New CB On Life And Money In The NFL

The Eagles traded two picks in this year's draft for Ellis Hobbs presumably as insurance in case Sheldon Brown attempts to hold out.  The funny thing is, with one year remaining on his own contract, Hobbs has been talking like a player who has money on his own brain as well.“Everyone is expendable,” Hobbs said.  “At the end of the day we’re all dollar signs....

Looking Forward

It's been a terrific offseason for me. I have spent most of my time in Arizona with my wife and three kids. Having a chance to be a dad - going to my daughter's soccer games and dance recitals, and seeing the babies grow and develop; there is nothing better than that. I am truly blessed and fortunate that the American Diabetes Association will honor me and two other men in June as...

Cornelius Ingram, Victor Harris Chosen In Fifth Round

After going two full rounds without a selection, the Eagles have added a much coveted tight end and threw another curveball by adding yet another corner.  Cornelius Ingram (6'4", 245) from Florida and Victor "Macho" Harris (5'11", 187) out of Virginia Tech were the picks, and the team has two remaining.Mike Mayock has Ingram as his second best tight end in the draft, however he...

Ellis and Hobbs

More wheeling and dealing at the NFL Draft, where my Eagles have moved a couple of fifth round picks to the Patriots for starting cornerback and Sheldon Brown Go Away Jersey Ellis Hobbs. Hobbs has been starting for the Pats for years now, and while he hasn't looked anything like a #1 corner despite making good money, he's probably a better option than Publicly Pouting Sheldon...

Philadelphia Eagles 2009 Draft Round-up

The Eagles came in with a plan for the 2009 NFL Draft: upgrade the skill position players and give Donovan McNabb some more weapons. Since they couldn't get Anquan Boldin in a trade, the Eagles did the next best thing and got one of the top wideouts in the draft. Since they couldn't get Tony Gonzalez in a trade, they went and got a steal in the 5th round when they drafted...

Somewhat More Sanguine

My how the accolades roll in!NFL report card by Paul DomowitchEagles: Swung two separate trades that got them a Pro Bowl left tackle (Jason Peters) and a 4-year starting cornerback (Ellis Hobbs). Got one of the draft's top two wide receivers (Jeremy Maclin) in the first round and some much-needed help for Brian Westbrook in the second (LeSean McCoy). All in all, a helluva draft...

2009 Draft Preview: Cornerbacks

Overview During the offseason, the Patriots worked hard to improve their secondary through the acquisitions of Leigh Bodden and Shawn Springs.  However, Bodden comes on a one year contract, and Springs is 34.  Ellis Hobbs also enters the final year of his contract.  And while Jonathan Wilhite and Terrence Wheatley still ...
