Looks like it may actually be possible for an Eagle to get his contract re-worked. Where Lito Sheppard and Sheldon Brown have failed, it looks like Donovan McNabb is going to succeed in getting a new deal, at least according to Derrick Gunn of Comcast Sportsnet. I guess if you are named to 5 Pro Bowls and lead the team to numerous NFC Championship Games, the Eagles are willing to open up their wallets for you. According to Gunn, the Eagles are working on a deal with McNabb that wouldn...

Agreed. He deserves the cash, he didn't go whining to the media about it

Is anyone else concerned that McNabb isn't/won't get an extension in these talks?

Not at all. Outside of the risk of an injury there is no reason why D-MAC should not be paid fair market value for the next two years and eventually extended for an extra couple years. He is only 32, in his prime, and the team is solid in all phases to surround their franchise QB. D-Mac will get his pay day, well deserved, and he will work even harder to bring a title to Philly. It is nice to know that our star QB will have every opportunity to finish his brilliant career in Philly.

I am. He has more than 2 good years in him.

He can probably go until he's 36, barring any type of injury. Question is, how much extra money are they going to offer? I think the Eagles are wise to not extend beyond the two years. Makes good business sense and we all know the FO is not going to spend money needlessly. Boosting him up to $12M or $15M makes more sense. He's worth it. If he pushes for an extension, I don't think he is going to get it.

    He'll get it.

from the article I read on profootballtalk.com is that he is just going to have a change in the remaining 2 years of his contract to reflect his market value. Not an extension

Right, but that doesnt mean he'll never see an extension....and profootballtalk isnt the best source. They also were the source for many of the Boldin rumors.
      • Zukny1
I only saw one boldin rumor through that site and andy reid practically confirmed it. I didn't start looking at it though until a month before the draft

I do wish they would extend his contract, but I know what they are doing is a better business decision. I also agree that he handled this like a man, he went to the FO, not the media.

    Sheldon is next Lito Sheppard?

I'm happy Donovan is getting what he's worth but I'm disappointed that there's no extention. I think Donovan has a lot more than 2 good years left in him.

They're saying that extention talks are just on hold. hopefully they resume them.

Eagles FO wont deal with Sheldon cause he has 4 years left on his contract. These people need to start honoring their damn contracts. No one is MAKING them sign their multi-MILLION dollar deals.

wow devil. you said something else i agree with. Excellent. But anyway, If Donovan plays well this year, he'll get his extension before 2010. If you read up on the subject, HE is the one who backed off on the extension. Not the Eagles.

I'm Glad to hear about this I hope he gets what he wants

This sounds more like a restructure then a new deal. They needed to do something to make McNabb happy after all the things that he has dealt with since Kolb was drafted.

Don't worry. They will give him a deal for a couple of years. Although we Cowboy fans would love to see him bolt, he's the best thing that's happened for Philly and they are not about to screw that up now.

BowlBound, You have finally said something I agree with. It might not seem like much but, You have gained my respect. Truer words have never been spoken.

For once I hope the Cowboy fan is right.

Well even a stopped watch is right once a day, so the odds were in our favor he'd finally get something correct.

I think they realized they needed to keep him happy when Kolb proved to be useless in the NFL. Even if he matures to a half decent player, which I don't think he will, they know the have to keep DMac for another couple years.
