Favre is an Idiot

The whole tampering case against the Vikings revolves around phone calls Brett Favre made to Darrell Bevell and Brad Childress using a phone that belonged to the Packers.A So Favre basically didn't realize that the Packers would be able to tell who he was calling using that phone.A It never crossed his mind that, by using it to call Bevell and Childress, he was laying the VikingsA - a team he was trying to finagle his way onto - open to tampering charges.A Can you say flaming moron?

And don't give me any of that conspiracy theory jivea€¦that nonsense where Favre and the Packers were involved in some plot to get the Vikings in trouble.A There was no devious calculation behind Phonegatea€¦it was just Favre being an idiot.

Favre maybe a moron. But he seems to carry a lot of influence (getting the Vikings to potetially lose draft picks without forwardly stating he is coming back, and getting the commisioner to stick his nose in other people's business. Check out this article I posted.

I realize that Roger Goodell faces a lot of pressure to stay ahead of the game. Running a billion dollar sports entertainment corporation, with over 32 divisions (or teams) and a player's union is daunting enough. He also has to deal with other larger issues such as gaining a larger global presence, greater scrutiny on the impact of the natural violence of the game on player health, along with whatever idiotic troubles players manage to get themself into throughout the year. I am all for his Personal Conduct Policy and his concerns with protecting the image of the NFL. But I fail to see how Goodell has any right to tell the Packers how to proceed with Brett Favre. As much power as he has, he is still empoyed by the owners the last time I checked. The Packers have been more than patient with Favre, even as he continues to act in underhanded ways (just how was his interest in a comeback and his texting Thompson leaked..or do you think Thompson wanted this headache). I love stars players and all that they do for sports, but the success of this league has been that their stars, no matter how great, are interchangeable. And I'm wondering if Goodell is letting this fact cloud his judgement.
