Former 1st rounders Lelie and Duckett on the Move

The Atlanta Falcons acquired former 1st rounder Ashley Lelie (2002, 19th pick) from the Denver Broncos, while dealing T.J. Duckett (picked right before Lelie at the 18th spot) to the Washington Redskins. The Redskins sent the Broncos their third-round pick in the 2007 Draft to complete the three-way trade.

This deal was forged due to key receiver and running back injuries to the Falcons and Redskins. Additionally, Lelie had been demanding a trade from Denver. Lelie will fill the Falcons' 3rd wide receiver void left by Brian Finneran's season-ending injury, while Duckett will provide some insurance for the Redskins should Clinton Portis' shoulder not be ready to start the regular season.

No doubt that the Redskins are concerned about how much pounding Clinton Portis' dislocated left shoulder can take in a 16-game season. His draft day value just slipped a little more...dare I say out of the top eight?

At the very least this deal takes away 3-4 touchdowns from Portis. How can Duckett not be the go-to-guy around the goal line? I'd say that drops him out of the top eight.

It's kind of interesting how the fantasy value of each of the players involved all take a hit. What if Lelie had been traded to the Bears instead? And Duckett to the Jets before Barlow got there? They would probably have been the first options at their positions. Instead Lelie's stuck as the third guy, and Duckett's situation doesn't differ all that much from the one he had in Atlanta if Portis is healthy.

I couldn't agree more...now with Duckett in the mix do you really think that the Skins are gonna give the ball to Portis around the goal-line, the situation in which his injured shoulder would be most vunerable? Plus I've also read that one more blow could pop it out and if that happens the next step is to secure the joint w/ surgery...I would be very surprised if Clinton ever plays in a "pre-season" game again.

So who is going to run the pool for when Portis pops the shoulder a second time? Duckett will be gone by the 5th round in all deep leagues.

Who is the 5th overall pick now that Portis is most definitely out? Jackson, Rudi, Jordan, Brown or PEYTON!?

Rudi's your man. Palmer will prove he's healthy on Monday. With Chris Henry being a model citizen lately, Palmer will have three solid, if not spectacular targets in Chad Johnson, T.J., and Henry. This is going to open up the running lanes for Rudi just as it did last season.

After watching Duckett as a Falcon for the last (how ever many seasons) I can say that despite his size he is not a sure thing on the goal line. I've never seen a man that big tiptoe like a ballerina like that before.

armeck, watch some footage of Jamal Lewis last season. He's got some quick feet, but sometimes you just gotta hit the hole and run over someone. Maybe the old Jamal will be back this season.
