Free-agent class of 2009 appears mighty impressive

Here is a look at arguably the top 10 players poised for free agency this winter.

1. Julius Peppers, Panthers defensive end –- Coming off a down year, but teams pay premium for pass rushers.

2. Steven Jackson, Rams running back –- Hard to imagine St. Louis parting ways with its most popular player.

3. Tommie Harris, Bears defensive tackle -– Talks on a long-term contract hit a standstill last month.

4. Marion Barber, Cowboys running back –- Last season, one NFC coach said Barber is an elite back in the same class as LaDainian Tomlinson or Adrian Peterson. Now he wants to be paid that way.

5. Chris Snee, Giants guard –- At a time when interior offensive linemen are cashing in, the son-in-law of Giants coach Tom Coughlin is going to cash in.

6. Nnamdi Asomugha, Raiders cornerback –- Oakland plans to franchise him again if he remains unsigned, which is a distinct possibility.

7. Albert Haynesworth, Titans defensive tackle –- Tennessee wouldn't let Haynesworth leave this offseason, and its stance is unlikely to change.

8. Terrell Owens, Cowboys wide receiver -– At the age of 34, T.O. is performing like he were 24.

9. Will Smith, Saints defensive end -– New Orleans defensive end Charles Grant got his money and Smith intends to do the same.

10. T.J. Houshmandzadeh, Bengals wide receiver –- Still waiting for his first big-money deal.

Of course, the list hardly stops there. It goes on and on, like the money that could be spent on some of these players.

The free-agent class of 2009 also is scheduled to include Lions wide receiver Roy Williams, Bills wide receiver Lee Evans, Giants running back Brandon Jacobs, Cowboys cornerback Terence Newman, Cowboys safety Ken Hamlin, Falcons linebacker Keith Brooking, Texans cornerback Dunta Robinson, Cardinals linebacker Karlos Dansby, Buccaneers quarterback Jeff Garcia and Giants wide receiver Amani Toomer.

I think T.O. sticks with the Cowboys, and that Ray and Baltimore will work out an extension. Julius Peppers will end up in New England. Just a hunch.

Peppers to Denver...remember Denver was rumored to try and go after them this past offseason

T.O. will almost have to stick around, won't he. I mean he'll get more out of Dallas because they have a real need and I don't see another contender out there that would be willing to take him. Unless Minnesota gets feeling frisky but I think that is a long shot and then some.

Like 90% of those people will be tagged

Or re-signed

yeah just a few of those guys will actually see the open market.. that is a pretty impressive class though!

Thanks for the info.

TJ WhosYaMomma....Big Money or will he be tagged...That would be something to see...

I like Barber over Jackson....

Ray Lewis...Just Retire

Don't forget that Anthony Henry will also be a free agent. There is no way that Dallas can resign two cornerbacks and a safety in addition to Barber and Canty. We don't have the room to resign them during this season and charge some of the bonus to this season like we did with Romo and Crayton last season.

I am with you TC, Peppers to Denver. (I don't know anything that is just wishful thinking)

And this is exactly why I thought your team should have drafted Rashard Mendenhall instead of Felix Jones (assuming they can't re-sign Barber). Mendenhall is a "three down back" and is a powerful runner between the tackles. Jones is better suited as a "change of pace back" and will be lucky to get 10-12 touches per game due to his diminutive stature.

I agree especially if PACMAN and MIKE JENKINS work out. but on this list i think peppers will be the only person to leave, defensive ends have been getting paid over the last few yrs. especially dwight freeney.

Look what Minnesota just gave Jared Allen, he's a very good de, but c'mon. Clearly because of that Peppers is due for a big pay day...even if he has just an "average" year.

Jared Allen had 17 sacks last year, and Peppers had 2.5... that isn't average, that plain sucks... if he doesnt have a great comeback year the Panthers will let him go

Peppers has fallen off the past year and needs a big year this year for him to get that big time pay day

most of those guys may get resigned

Peppers = Jevon Kearse. And If the cowboys dont re-sign T.O.....Raiders here he comes.

Im not a raiders fan BTW,they just seem to be going with the old folk

raiders avg starters age is 26.5 and only have 2 players who are over 30 who will start this year so i doubt that.

If the Cowboys find another stud receiver before next year I think they'll let T.O. go. But I doubt anyone would pick him up, perhaps the Raiders.

As for Roy Williams, he even thinks that his team (detroit lions) will slap him with the franchise tag.
