When Rex Ryan took over the New York Jets in the off season, he promised that the Jets would be different. Most of us took that as bravado. As many of us have had to admit to our surprise and delight, it wasn’t. The Jets are entirely for real, and they well deserve their record of three wins and one loss. Unfortunately, that one loss came today and it came at the hands of a team that made far fewer mistakes as the New Orleans Saints beat Gang Green 24-10 in the Louisiana Superdome.
Still, despite the excitement and optimism, there was going to be a game where the 22-year old rookie quarterback with all of sixteen college games, and all of three pro games under his belt, would play so awfully that we would groin familiarly and start thinking about Kellen Clemens. You had to know it was coming. It’s surprising it took this long. The outcome of the first three games and the brilliant play of the defense made stupid optimists of us all. All that’s over, now.
