Found August 22, 2008 on The Scores Report: Yardbarker Blogger Network
On the heels of a 10-6 season and following trades for Shaun Rogers and Corey Williams, many people were expecting big things from the Cleveland Browns this year. In fact, not only have many fans, prognosticators and other media folk predicted an AFC North title for Cleveland, but some truly brave souls even touted the possibility of a Super Bowl appearance for a team that hasn't won a playoff game since 1995. Following Monday night's embarrassing (for the team and its fans, anyway) 37-34 preseason loss to the Giants ? a game that saw the defending champs dominate Cleveland's starters on their way to a 30-3 lead early in the second quarter before the benches tightened up the final score ? those calling for greatness from the 2008 Browns may need to rethink their stance. • I remember a certain Cincinnati Bengals team thad had similar expectations a few years back...

I heard something about the Browns having the toughest schedule in all of football this year. It may be tough for them to make the playoffs with that schedule, and the fact they can't stop anyone on defense.

As a Derek Anderson fan, I hope I'm wrong!
  • steelers have toughest schedule (based on last year's records)
    TeamOpponents' 2007 win pct.
    Steelers.598
    Colts .594
    Jaguars.559
    Vikings.551
    Ravens .551
    Bengals.547
    Texans .547
    Browns .547
  • Guess I got bad info... either way, they have a tough schedule. Given their defensive problems, they will have to play flawless offense to be in the 10-6 range that will be needed to make the playoffs.
  • they won't be a factor this year. last year they could only beat bad teams with the exception of beating the seahawks by a field goal, and they weren't a great team either. their defense is sub par and its hard to outscore a team without a superb offense. if they upgrade their defense, they will be playoff contenders.
  • they have an awesome offense, the only thing that will hold them back is their defense
  • yeah but having a great offense means nothing if you can't stop them. Look at the bengals they have 3 great WR and they can never get anywhere
  • it's only pre season!!! you guys just need to bolster your pass rush on d!!! they get man handled too easy!!
  • I dunno sometimes a team will look really good on paper and when the season comes in its just a total bust. And i personally thought that the browns would really be able to create some damage at least on paper but they got molested by the giants who i personally don't think are a very good team overall, they have a great D-line but that's it. Elli is nothing more than a fluke QB.
  • when you can lose strahan and not lose a beat, that's a pretty good sign. giants are good.
  • they also lost Gibril, and hopefully Osi won't be out for long. Even so your right, they looked good.
  • It was a preseason game, let's keep this in mind.
  • they lost to the Lions, come on!
  • i think the browns are gonna be ok!!!! just gonna have to work out the kinks on D!!! the only ones i see them having a problem with is the steelers!!! but it seems like the DAWGS step up their game when it comes to them and the bengals!!! i wanna see another shoot out with cincy like last year!!!! the scoreboard looked like a pinball machine!!!
  • They browns weren't even good last year. The teams the beat include the stellar teams of cincinnati, baltimore twice, the dolphins, seahawks, texans, jets, bills and 49ers. Those teams had a combined record of 56 - 85 or .39 win percentage. That would be good enough for the 8th worst team in the league.

Brady's on the back burner

Today QB Derek Anderson re-upped with the Browns after agreeing to terms on a multiple-year contract, which means Browns QB Brady Quinn will have to wait at least another year to get a shot as an NFL starter. Source: Browns Gave Up "Too Much" for Williams and Rogers

An inside source with the league says the Browns gave up too much in terms of draft position and money in order to obtain Corey Williams and Shaun Rogers. But considering what the Browns got in return - two franchise defensive linemen - wasn't it worth it?

Browns Nemisis Too Fat To Play

If any of you been to training camp or seen them play else where in person, then I'm sure you know that Shaun Rogers, Corey Williams, Robaire Smith, and Shaun Smith are all pretty big guys, well you may change your mind in a moment. Seems as though Pittsburgh Steelers D-lineman Casey Hampton, is too fat to participate in the team's training camp and has been placed on the...

Hey, Brodney. How About Not Leading With the Head?

When Brodney Pool took down Brandon Jacobs in last night's game, it was definitely an upending. A hard hit, that resulted in the bruising running back being taken down about three yards past the line of scrimmage. Pool then helped chase Eli Manning out of bounds on a play soon thereafter, obviously possessing more speed than Corey Williams. And then that was about it. In...
