This isn’t exactly the cavalry coming over the hill, but the Giants’ beleaguered, battered and just plain bad defense will get some help this week. Linebacker Michael Boley (knee) and Defensive tackle Chris Canty (calf) are both expected to practice on Wednesday. Considering the defense has now had its worst three-game stretch since 1973, I can’t imagine that’s enough to solve all their problems. But every little bit helps. Meanwhile, CB Aaron Ross (hamstring) probably won’t do much this week, but Tom Coughlin said that it’s possible he’ll do some individual drills next week. That would be the bye week, by the way, which means the Giants could possibly get him back before November is over, too. As for the injuries from the Giants’ game in Philly on Sunday - - the physical ones, not the psychological ones - - Coughlin said both WR Domenik Hixon (hip pointer) and WR Sinorice Moss (foot) are “sore”. He said he wouldn&...

Halfway to ... what, exactly?

Eight games into the season, there’s only one thing anyone can say about the Giants with any conviction: They desperately need the bye week. I’ve been around losing teams before, but I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a group less sure exactly why they’re losing. They haven’t experienced a slide like this since 2006, before most of them were...

Welcome Back:

It looks like Michael Boley and Chris Canty will begin praticing again on Wednesday.  With the Giants having the worst three game defensive stretch since 1973 anything will help.  When Boley was on the field he was everywhere and if healthy should help the defensive unit and its time for Canty to start earning his hefty [...]

Looking Back at the Philadelphia Beating

Newark Star-Ledger's Mike Garafolo wraps up the Giants dreadful performance. On Jerry Reese:GM Jerry Reese. I’ve been holding out on this one to see how Brown would do over the past couple of weeks, but he’s strung enough bad games together for me to fire this bullet. My point is I understand the Giants are without Kenny Phillips on the back end and that they have to go light...

Manning Wisely Takes the Blame, Says Foot Feels “Great”

In the press conference following Sunday’s 40-17 disaster in Philadelphia, Giants quarterback Eli Manning made it clear to reporters that his foot is healed and the injury that knocked him out of a game against the Chiefs earlier this season is not to blame for his recent struggles. “It feels great, I’m not taping it or [...]

The cavalry is coming; For real this time

Hard as it is to believe, the Giants’ defense could soon be at full strength. OK, maybe not full strength, but they could soon be pretty close now that both DT Chris Canty (calf) and LB Michael Boley (knee) are back at practice. Canty said he practiced fully today and Boley said he took about half the snaps. And both players said they felt pretty good when the workout was...

The Season is Long, But…

I've got a lot on my mind grapes, so hopefully we'll have a productive week here. We'll start with some fertile blogging ground, a three-game skid by the hometown 53. Or 45. Whatever. As I said in the original (and more optimistic) version of this post, I was relatively fine with the bloodbath in New Orleans. It's just one of those games you see every year where...

Bondy: Giant effort is for the birds

The Giants are missing tackles, giving the football away, flubbing assignments. Five different Eagles either caught passes or rushed in plays that gained 20 or more yards from scrimmage. "We're a complete embarrassment," Antonio Pierce said.

Steelers weigh risks of Clark's participation

Steelers free safety Ryan Clark's status is in question for the team's upcoming MNF matchup against the Denver Broncos.

On the Steelers: Carter capable of filling in for Clark

Mike Tomlin has listed five possible Steelers to play free safety when they take the Mile High plunge Monday night in Denver, and if one of them is not named Ryan Clark the correct answer will be Tyrone Carter.
