Jay Cutler will improve the Chicago Bears. Anyone suggesting otherwise is either putting too much weight into a quarterback's career W-L record or an eternal pessimist. What remains to be seen is whether Cutler can turn the Bears from a fringe playoff team into a Superbowl contender. Last year, Kyle Orton gave the Bears a great performance, surpassing all expectations and improving greatly to post a 58.5% completion percentage, and 6.4 yards per pass attempt. This was an arguably better campaign than anything put together by previous quarterbacks like Rex Grossman, Jim Miller or Shane Matthews. Nevertheless, it wasn't hard to see the defects in Orton's game that showed little signs of improving. The lack of mobility, inability to face pressure and deliver a strong throw and lack of accuracy beyond 20 yards were too apparent as the Bears made an improbable playoff run late in the year.Enter Jay Cutler. The overhyped, future superstar, and drama queen 'franchise q...

Bears Strategy at Wide Receiver a Risky One

There are plenty of good arguments on both sides of the debate regarding the Bears receiving corps.  People are right when they say that Jay Cutler could use a primary receiver to take this offense to the next level.  Others aren’t off base when they cite Matt Forte’s receiving ability and a tight end tandem [...]

Top Five Breakout Bears

Any discussion of the 2009 Chicago Bears will invariably revolve around Jay Cutler and his sub-prime receiving corps. Considering that the Bears last franchise QB was born during the Woodrow Wilson administration, the hype surrounded Cutler is at the very least understandable. Still, if Chicago fans want to see their boys back in the playoffs, they’ll have to rely on major...

Chicago Bears: I'm Not the Only One Who Thinks the WR Unit Is Atrocious

I recently wrote an article titled "Why Jay Cutler Will Fall Flat On His Face In Chicago", and got blasted by many sensitive Bears fans for thinking I called out their precious "franchise" QB, and ripping on their underwhelming WR's. To put it in perspective, the Bears No. 1 WR is Devin Hester, a former CB. That should sum up the state of the Bears...

Lester Wiltfong is on staff at Windy City Gridiron and he's the featured Bears blogger for The Sporting News. Chicago Bears 2008 Recap: Last year the Bears were a Kyle Orton injury away from being in the playoffs. As long as he doesn't badmouth the...

Introducing the 2009 All-NFC North Team

After looking at the North, this division has perhaps the league's best running back, the league's best defensive tackle tandem, and one of the best free-agent pick-ups. In the end, this was still not an easy team to compile, especially at quarterback. Here is the preseason All-NFC North team. Oh, before we get started, Jay Cutler is actually not the top QB. I'll explain...
