Hugh Douglas's Analysis Of The Eagles.....He's on point IMO.

I this his assesment of the state of our beloved Eagles, especially with the WR situation and his assesment of the team as a whole. I mean for a team or staff that like to have young players we sure dont like to play them, instead we keep em under wraps in favor of overpaid players that arent getting it done. I'm tired of hearing Spadaro saying we played Mitchell, Sheppard, and Brown in their rookie years. That's all well and true, but Brown and Shepp developed well because they had mentors like Taylor,Dawkins, and Vincent. Mitchell had no one, maybe we need a new WR's coach to help our WR's come into their own. I mean look at Brown all but invisible, Lewis barely sees any action/damn near forgotten. Avant and Baskett under utilized. And someone tell me please why the F' do we have Sampy and Gasperson on the roster? That's my million dollar question.

Not bad, I also think Baskett deserves a shot as the slot. Mix him up out wide at times to give McNabb a bigger target around the field and to give our offense a more dynamic attack. If for some unfortunate reason we do not add a talented big receiver to our corp in the offseason (free agency or draft) then I would def like to see Baskett fill that role. He's got good hands and he's got the size that Avant doesn't have to better compliment LJ in the seams.

"08 is ours"

Avant and Lewis need more time, Greg Lewis monstered against the Patriots, but we still need some1, like chad johnson he may be a problem, but hes a great teacher look what he made whosurmama become, thats talent we need, i see potential in most of the young receivers, Greg jason reggie even hank. Kevin curtis isn't that great but w.e. we need chad regardless or larry but i mean he is young too, or roy williams hed be ok

I'm pretty sure you have this all backwards though Curtis is a perfect #2 receiver the others are all decent receivers but philly is still missing that #1 go to guy

agreed blitzkid09

Philly is fucking cheap thas y they won't win one in like 80 more years they fucking suck bringing players or drafting

I agree that our player evalution hasnt been what it should be, but its not that they're cheap its that the players they spend the money on do not fit our system or cant learn the playbook to get on the field. Our problem is Andy is being a control freak wanting to be the GM and maker personel decisions. And lets face it people Andy is our real GM, Heckert was just given that tittle to keep him happy, and he was a fool to take it because he doesnt make the final decisions on who they bring in to be an Eagle.

We all know coaches/dont have a good history in thsi league which is why Holmgren was stripped of the same duties a few years back, and thats what has to happen with Reid.

It look's to me that Douglas has a lot more perspective of what the Eagles need. Hey Jeffery you might take take some of Hugh's insite in, Reed don't seem to have a clue. WAKE UP ! This guy has tunnel vision, His way or no-way, seem's to be the way it is.

i completely agree

regardless of what people think about lewis, u need that guy that takes attention away from your speedy #2 in curtis, and ur mediocre or less #3 in greg lewis if thats the case. whosurmama is a great receiver dont get me wrong but he got his chances becuase the focus was on 85. id love to see fitzgerald or roy williams in eagles green before chad, but either way its time we made a post TO wr move

dont you love a front office that cant see what everybody else sees year after year. blind ass mother f...ers!

PLAYMAKERS! That is the word until kick-off 2008. No if and or buts. All of the analysis in the world doesn't mean a thing unless we get PLAYMAKERS! Andy Reed and the front office has to realize that without PLAYMAKERS, we will be on the outside looking in!

i lke the wr corp. much potential is there. hugh's right, we have to play them though. and yes, we could use a speedy #1 go to wr. i don't think our front office could handle another mouthy reciever like chad. larry going to cost to much that's only reason why the cards will trade him if he doesn't renogotiate. roy, ehh, he's too old, but he would be a good vet wr. personally, i like bernard berrian in chi-town. isn't he available?

One real punt returner for game 1 against the Packers, and 1 stop on the 97 yard drive against the Bears and the Eagles are in the playoffs again in 2007-08. That's how the NFL works. I think they need a solid draft and let Kearse and Howard find some other team to steal money from. The reason the Giants went to the Superbowl was because of their 2007 Draft (Boss, Bradshaw, Ross, Alford, and S. Smith). They all contributed not only during the season, but were the stars of Superbowl XLII.

Let's look at the Eagles 2007 Draft:

Kolb- DNP
Abiamiri- DNP
Bradley- DNP (1 game)
Hunt- DNP (a little)
Gaddis- Cut
Celek- Decent rookie year/Little PT
Barksdale- Cut
IIaoa- Cut

This is why you go 8-8. We have the wrong Tom, I wish Heckert left for Atlanta and we still had Tom Modrak!

We really missed the playoffs due to the injury to L.J smith- with no one with experience @ tight end, we had no one to go to in the end zone. Even in a mediocre season L.J. would come down with a few perennial td's in the middle of the endzone. Mcnabb doesn't throw outs over the corners, no receivers with any height advantage doesn't help either. We were left with nowhere to go with the ball inside the ten.
We should be securing L.J.- or if they decide they want to go down another avenue, they ought to do so quickly.

ok first of all I think some of your evaluations of our receivers are a bit off. Reggie Brown is a #2 Receiver, who can be a great complimentary receiver if there is a good #1 receiver that demands attention. Kevin Curtis is a SLOT receiver, or a receiver who needs to be moved around the formation A LOT. Curtis has quickness, great hands, and good after-catch ability. He could be an equivalent to Wes Welker if he is put in the same role, but instead he is always on the outside against the opponents good DB's and gets quiet yards. He would be great with receiver screens and quick crossing and slant routes under the middle of the defense. And please, please stop with this greg lewis talk. He is horrible. You think he is good because the only yards and catches he ever gets is because every once in a blue moon he gets behind the defense, and they pay no attention to him and he gets big plays. But stop, if it weren't for the Eagles, he would not be playing in the NFL. Avant will be a solid receiver, nothing more than a 3 or 4 guy. Baskett has potential, especially in the red zone with his big frame and great hands, unfortunately, the eagles never give him any playing time. Bottom line is that the eagles need to get a good #1 receiver who demands attention and can get off the line of scrimmage.
