I know some are going to look at the title of this post and think that I'm over reacting to today's loss. Amazingly enough Heilman still has supports amongst the Shea Faithful who can be some of the toughest fans in baseball, just ask Luis Castillo. I know he's been used more then any other reliever and that when he's on, he's dominant against both lefties and righties.Heilman's a tease, he strings together a few incredible appearances and just when you think he's turned the corner he breaks your heart. Today's just another game in a long line of disappointments and his failures have out weighed his success for me at this point. Thanks to a great second half coming out of the pen in 2005, we have been tortured by Heilman for the last three years. People who don't follow the team closely wouldn't understand, his numbers up til this year have been decent: in 2006 his ERA was 3.62 and last year 3.03. But Heilman has made it an art form to find ...

Master Manipulator
I think Jerry Manuel's best gift that he brought to the team was his ability to manipulate a situation. Now most hear the term manipulate and have a negative connotation, but all it means to me is that he has the talent to get the most from those around him. It's actually a compliment to the man for his understanding of the intricacies in a given situation and competency...

Newsday reported today that John Maine was administered a cortisone shot prior to his start on Saturday. The result: pain, soreness and his least effective outing of his career.

Another minor league pitcher wants to help....
Many have heard the names Jon Neise and Bobby Parnell as possible call ups in Sept., both are in AAA New Orleans and have had mixed results. Parnell was bombed in his last outing and has an ERA of 7.43 with a record of 1-2. Neise has had four two run outings including tonight and two four run outings, his ERA is 3.65 with a 4-1 record. John Maine and Mike Pelfrey may need at least...
Murphy and Evans fitting in..........
When someone from the Mets' front office says that Daniel Murphy and Nick Evans eat, sleep and drink baseball, that's not really an exaggeration. The two live in a hotel about a one-hop throw from Shea Stadium, usually discuss that day's game over lunch in the lobby and only seem to emerge from the indoor batting cages in time for outfield practice with coach Ken Oberkfell...

Why I hate the U.S. Open, Why Jerry Manuel Should Have the Job and why Jets fans should have to write PSL checks.
I'd go with Claudio Vargas
Now that it's official, John Maine is on the DL and the rest of his season is in jeopardy, the Mets need to find another starter. Brian Stokes can spot start and I know alot of people will be clamouring for Jon Niese or Bobby Parnell, but I'd go with a more conservative approach, Claudio Vargas. John Maine's spot has approximately five starts left which means the team...
