I think it's absurd, asinine, absurd and downright irresponsible when the college football luminaries begin pontificating about potential Heisman Trophy winners in the second or third week of the college football season. I'm disgusted seeing them seriously discussing a months-long contest just days following the opening of "registration."So, where should we start in breaking down this past weekend's NFL slate? Hmmmm. Whuddya think should be the 2009 NFL MVP, Brees or Peterson? See that? I flipped it on y'all. Clever, huh? Or lazy...Anyway, I am only half-joking. "All Day" and Easy Brees-y are off to the races and it would in no way surprise me if they are in the small consideration set of MVP finalists come early 2010.It would be somewhat of a waste here if we were simply going on two weeks of gaudy stats alone. In this case, we've got the eye-popping stats...plus two All-Pros...plus two 2-0 teams that should, one would think, be serious divis...

Brees a threat to Brady's TD record?

OK, it's very early. But the start by New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees certainly raises the possibility that Brees could chase Tom Brady's two-year-old single-season NFL record of 50 touchdown passes. Through two games, Brees has nine touchdown passes...

Drew Brees: Poking Brady and Manning with a stick

Over the last several years, it's been accepted conventional wisdom that Tom Brady(notes) and Peyton Manning(notes) are the NFL's best quarterbacks. Oh, you'll have the odd Big Ben, or Philip Rivers(notes), or Kurt Warner(notes) (Cardinals version) in the argument, but since Kurt Warner (Rams NFL MVP version) became Kurt Warner (New York Giants version), it's been...

Saints Raise Questions for Eagles' Defense

A week ago, the Eagles defense imposed their will on the Panthers, forcing seven turnovers and holding Carolina to just 169 total yards of offense in a 38-10 win. However, if you look into that game a little deeper, you'll remember that the Panthers opened the game with a 70-yard touchdown drive. On that drive, the Eagles could not stop the Panthers. Quarterback Jake Delhomme...

NFL Pick Five

In the future I will plan to get this post out sometime during the week, but I thought starting with Week 2 of the NFL season, I would post five picks against the spread each week, and then keep track and see how I do throughout the season. As I've mentioned previously, historically early in the season I have fared somewhat poorly, but by the middle and late stages of the year...

Chargers-Ravens Fantasy Football Preview: Rolling the Dice

Within the plethora of games this week to preview, the Chargers-Ravens matchup is about as intriguing as the mesmorizing dance moves of “Green Man.” Sure, we can talk about Drew Brees or Adrian Peterson, but we can also favor more predictable topics such as cookies and milk and the natural passing of gas; this is more entertaining and informative. For the Chargers, they...
