Is Michael Vick Going To Be A Raider?

FoxSports.com is reporting that the Raiders are looking to acquire Michael Vick. The rumored deal is Randy Moss, Jerry Porter, plus the no. 1 overall draft pick in the 2007 draft for Vick and Atlanta's first-round pick (10th overall). I don't know who might lose more from this deal. On the one hand, you get two highly paid receivers with bad attitudes, but the first pick overall. On the other hand, you get a quarterback that has proven he can't cut it in the league, but you unload two troublesome receivers. Regardless, I don't think this deal will go down because Vick is too big a figure in Atlanta. With Petrino in the driver's seat though, you never know, maybe Vick could find himself on the way out.

Vick needs to re-work his contract if the deal were to go through. The Falcons take a 22 million dollar cap hit if they trade him before June 1 and a 16 million dollar hit if they trade him after June 1. Financial questions aside, I don't know how the Falcons could pass up this deal. Vick sells tickets, but from a talent standpoint, you solve (or at least seriously address) your biggest need, wide receivers. Couple that with the notion that Matt Schaub may be a better fit for the team along with the top pick in this year's draft, and I think the team would not only be heading in the right direction, but could be a contender, maybe not next year, but certainly in the years to come. Vick's trade value will only diminish in the seasons to come, so the Falcons could capitalize on his hype. It worked for the Chargers, who essentially received LT and Drew Brees for Vick coming out of college.

Yea I agree with you on the talent issue, but with Moss and Porter you don't just get talent, you get trouble. Could they change their attitudes and be productive, sure. But I think their actions in Oakland are as much a product of who they are on the inside as much as discontent that their offensive was vastly under-performing. What I do believe though (and I have said this before during the past couple seasons) is that Atlanta needs to find a new quarterback. As you mentioned Vick is exciting, but winning is what is important in the NFL, and Vick can't seem to lead his team to victory.

The character issues go without saying, but Oakland is a miserable situation, and you would think, especially in Moss's case, that maybe in the not so distant future, they/he will begin to value the team dynamic over personal glory. Teams like New England and Chicago are proving you can win without a "true number one receiver" so the market for guys like Moss, T.O. and even Porter to a certain extent, isn't going to be what it was a few years back. Corey Dillon was a problem at one point in his career too and now that seems like a distant memory. Don't forget, the sports world has a short memory and loves stories about redemption.

I agree with you on these points, but what I want to add is that Oakland may not really be gaining ground by acquiring Vick. He is already starting to get old, and it doesn't seem like he is going to be getting better.

Well, that's our problem. We are reasonable and think rationally. Al Davis doesn't have to deal with that.

I don't think this deal has a prayer of happening, but it's definitely interesting enough to discuss.

Personally I think All of these players need a change of scenery.

In gaining Vick the Raiders will gain atleast some semblence of an offense as despite his inconsistancies has won a bunch of games without ever having a receiver of mention. The Raiders will sell about a million Vick Jerseys, and possible a couple of thousand R. Mexico jerseys.

The Falcons get the #1 pick and two very talented wideouts to compliment Patrino's dynamic attacking scheme. And despite getting troubled receivers they lose a guy who's every mistake in Atlanta is magnified to a ridiculous extent.

I think it should get done. Perhaps the Raiders should get one of the Falcons terrible receivers, White or Jenkins back in the deal as the Falcons really won't need either.

It's a horrible deal because you would be trading away the pieces that could make Vick dangerous. Teaming him with Moss would not only increase the amount of bud smoking in the locker room, but would make for a great tandem on the field. Moss or Porter, not both.
The Raiders would still suck though, and with their luck, Jamarcus or Brady would turn into a Hall of Famer

No QB will be good until they get a respectable o-line.

Yeah, hopefully they won't hire an offensive coordinator from Idaho next time.

If that trade goes through, ( which I doubt it will ) the Falcons are automatically among the top of the NFC.
