TEAMS: Miami Dolphins, Oakland Raiders, Jacksonville Jaguars
After the Jaguars traded for wide receiver Troy Williamson earlier this week, most experts thought that the receiver position won't be addressed until the draft. Well the Jaguars already proved them wrong. The Jaguars signed Jerry Porter to a 6 year $30 million deal that includes $10 million in guaranteed money. Porter had played on the Raiders the previous eight years of his career. Porter had a solid season last year as he had 44 catches for 705 yards and 6 touchdowns. The only problem with the signing of Porter is that he is built very similar to the Jags other receivers. Questions have also been brought up about his character as Porter is known to have had gotten in fights with Art Shell during the 2006 season in which the Raiders went 2-14.
The Jaguars made another big signing today with quarterback Cleo Lemon. Lemon signed a 3 year deal worth around $9 million. Lemon will likely be the backup to David Garrard as Quinn Gray is a free agent. Lemon last season t...

Ok, this is usually a baseball blog, but I found about this listening to the "Mike & Mike" radio show on may to work in my car, and I was beyond pissed off.

Jags sign Porter, Lemon and make trade
The Jacksonville Jaguars had a busy day making a couple signs and a trade. The moves include signing wide receiver Jerry Porter, QB Cleo Lemon and trading for wide receiver Troy Williamson. Lets break down all the moves:
Scheduled for Tuesday: Quinn Gray
Former Jacksonville Jaguars' quarterback and unrestricted free-agent, Quinn Gray, is scheduled to visit the Oakland Raiders tomorrow (Tuesday). I really like the idea of bringing him in as JaMarcus Russell’s backup. Injuries to Byron Leftwich and David Garrard forced the former 3rd string Q...

Kwame Harris and Gibril Wilson Raider free agent targets
profootballtalk.com has reported that Kwame Harris has been signed by the Oakland Raiders, then rescinded that report saying that a deal wasn't expected to be done until this weekend. Bernard Berrian to visit the Oakland Raiders
The Oakland Raiders are continuing their aggressive approach to free agency and have scheduled a trip to Oakland for Bernard Berrian. This is a move that the Raiders need to pull off as speed has been lacking in their receiver corps, which have been thinned by the loss of Jerry Porter. Berrian would likely be an expensive addition to the Raiders, but hopefully they can work out a...
Raiders to cut Sims, Jerry Porter and Chris Clemons land elsewhere
Free agency is in full swing and the rumor-mill is working overtime. Just last night, pft reported that the Raiders had signed Kwame Harris, then they reported that he hadn't signed. ESPN.com is reporting that the much maligned Barry Sims is going to be cut by the Oakland Raiders. There are reports that Jerry Porter and Chris Clemons have landed elsewhere.

-Troy Williamson is a stiff. OK, maybe he's a fast stiff, but a stiff none the less. You know you're in trouble when they justify the trade by saying "he was a top ten pick" and we're only giving up a 6th rounder. Using that logic maybe we should trade a 4th rounder for Ryan Leaf and toss in a conditional pick for Tony Mandarich. You have to wonder why the guys that know him best are willing to give up on him for a 6th rounder. A textbook case of one man's trash is another man's treasure. Word to the wise: don't order that $300 stitched jersey just yet. I wouldn't even risk $79 for the replica version.
-Jerry Porter has the repuation of being an underachiever with an attitude problem. Me too, so you won't hear me complaining. Problem with this pick-up is that he's turning 30 and I prefer to get guys in their second contract (peak years) rather than pay big money to watch their skills decline. If the Jags were going to take a gamble on a guy with issues they should have taken a look at Moss. If they wanted to upgrade the position I would have preferred Berrian (who even made Rex Grossman look good at times) or Bryant Johnson.
-Cleo Lemon? What was their hurry? Seems like they paid a lot for a back-up guy (and not a particularly good one). I'd rather see them pick up a Kelly Holcombe, Todd Collins or even Brunell who can add some veteran perspective to the role. I'll miss Quinn Gray. He was one of the few guys on the team in worse shape than me. He was an inspiration and he always looked like a world-beater in the 4th exhibition game.
