Found March 16, 2009 on Predominantly Orange:
Let’s get to it right away. Jay Cutler is not reporting to the team meeting today. In fact, he just asked to be traded. Broncos fans had some clue this was coming. He was a no-show to the trainer’s roast that was scheduled for Saturday. He also put one of his homes on the market on Saturday followed by his second home on Sunday. I blame both sides of the coin for this mess. Here came Josh McDaniels. Apparently he considers himself the heir apparent to Bill Belichick. Does he know the coaching record of New England assistants once they leave New England? He had a great Pro Bowl QB right at his finger tips, but couldn’t keep him happy. He was looking into a trade to get Matt Cassel, and forgot that he already had a better QB. It makes me sick to think that McD lied to Cutler during the two week period after he got the coaching job. He told Jay that he would not be traded. Then all of a sudden, like a compulsive gambler on a winning streak, he tried for a big hit during free agency. The Broncos were no doubt one of the most active teams during this period, and McD couldn’t stop himself once a deal for Cassel looked possible. I don’t understand it. Why look to trade Cutler for a mediocre QB? It made Cutler feel like he wasn’t wanted in Denver. Coming from a different perspective, Cutler needs to suck it up, and leave it on the field. If he was feeling that way, he should want to prove his doubters. Cutler is a 25 year-old millionaire with all the potential in the world. He was the only QB since John Elway to win Broncos fans over. He has a great group of teammates including a talented receiving core. Who would leave Brandon Marshall, Eddie Royal, and Jabar Gaffney? He also had one of the great offensive minds in the league at his finger tips. It’s a sad story here in Denver today. The hopes of next season rested solely on McDaniels’ and Cutler’s relationship. Roughly two and a half months after the Broncos ended an 8-8 season, it pains me to say that they could end up with the same record next season.

  • I agree. Its horrible the McDaniel's pulled this, but Jay does need to suck it up. Then again we do not need another Reeves and Elway story here in Denver. All in all McDaniel's needs to realize that if he makes a bad decision, Denver fans will come down on him and hard. Its not a good thing to be a hated man in this town when it comes to our sports, especially the Broncos.

Dallas Cowboys Trading For Jay Cutler?

I ask this question because it was asked of me by a coworker today and it turned into a long-winded response that I felt I had to bring to this blog tonight. The coworker, a sports writer, asked me if I thought the Dallas Cowboys should trade Tony Romo for Jay Cutler, who has asked for [...]

Will The Bucs Now Jump Back Into McCutlerGate

I have been trying to be cautiously optimistic about the potential for Broncos Pro Bowl QB Jay Cutler and their new Head Coach Josh McDaniels not being able to resolve their differences.   The Bucs seemed to be the team where Cutler would have been headed had the Broncos and the Buccaneers moved a little quicker on the Matt Cassel trade front.   Team owner Pat Bowlen has been unusually...
