Earlier this week the New York Jets signed cornerback, Ahmad "Batman" Carroll. The Green Bay Packers selected the former Arkansas standout in the first round (25th overall) of the 2004 NFL Draft. As a Razorback he was All-SEC in 2001 and 2003 and was a star sprinter on the track team. The 5'10" corner was the first player ever that Green Bay drafted out of Arkansas in the first round. However, he recorded only 3 interceptions in his three seasons (34 games) with the Pack and his poor performance against Greg Lewis of the Philadelphia Eagles led to his release. Lewis burned him for two touchdowns and caused three defensive penalties in week 4 of the 2006 season. This past season, Carroll played for the Orlando Predators in the AFL after being waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars in May. He was arrested on weapon and drug chargers which led to his release. Carroll started 15 of 16 games for the Predators and led the team with 70 tackles and was third with seven defensive breakups. The Atlanta native was also selected to the All-Rookie team and provided exceptional man-coverage in division games vs. the Georgia Force and New Orleans VooDoo. To make room for the 24 year-old corner the Jets released Nate Lyles. Carroll adds good depth to a position that already has Darrelle Revis, Justin Miller, David Barrett, Hank Poteat, Andre Woolfolk, Drew Coleman and rookie Dwight Lowery on the roster. Carroll can tackle, is very fast, and should be motivated to prove that he still has the ability that made him a first round draft pick in 2004.
