Kearse officially cut by Eagles

It's official: NFL Network reports that Jevon Kearse will be released, ending his stay in Philadelphia and its salary cap. It appears the Eagles are preparing to be very active in free agency. Asante Samuel may be a very real possibility. Lito getting plays off? Sheldon at safety? These all seem very possible as free agency nears.

AAAHHHHH....I can't wait!!!! They freaking better not let us down..DAMMIT

Wow, this is huge for us...i think we need to let Darren Howard, and Jerome Mcdougle go too....i am just salivating at how much cap space we will have then from those 2 also being let go.

Why did the Eagles bother holding on to McDougle for this long to begin with? He should have been cut this past year if not, the year before.

I agree. I think its because if a guy knows the Eagles sytem they hold on to them. It's just one less player to teach a complex system to.

and by the way, we dont need sheldon at strong safety. he would be the best nickel safety in the league if we had lito and asante starting. no one would be able to pass on us...period...

The only problem I have with Lito is he only plays 12 games a year. Asante and Sheldon at corner wuld be steady, solid, explosive and dependable. Lito could be a great flash as a nickel corner with Sheldon sliding to the slot here. It may prolong Lito's career and take wear and tear off him if he gets plays off. He could be fresh everytime he takes the field. That could be explosive.

12 games is high for Lito...more like 8-10. Dollar cost that out and the 3.5 million he's making for the year equates out to 6-8million if you play all season long

I keep thinking that our big CB sign with be either Matt Ware or Dexter Wynn. You watch, they both know the system well, cheap, and it would be a typical FO move

You definitly know the Birds. I would take Matt Ware back even as a nickel. Dexter Wynn is also descent kick returner. This would be a typical Eagles moves. But a good steady one. Lets all just be thankful Will James is gone.

Matt Ware is still under 25 years old.

and actually 6 feet tall.

Wow, he is a man-child.

neither of them will be touched. but yes i have a feeling we might not even go after asante. honestly i think that we will draft a good big cb to use at nickel, but who knows. i hope we get an asante though, since we definitely have the cap room. for once, the FO has to go out and spend, and use up all their cap space.

Dominic Rodgers-Cromartie is my suggestion there. He's a CB/S KR. And yes, is Antonio Cromartie's cousin... and he's 6'2" so he might even be able to cover Plaxico.

I have a feeling that either William Thomas or Jon Runyan will be out the door as well. Today, on Daily News Live, Sal Paolantonio talked about the possibility of the Eagles signing Alan Faneca. Shawn Andrews would move to RT and Faneca would take over RG. While that may upset any Eagle fan, including myself, it may be for the best.

thank you for this article you made my night hahaha.....i love this hes just old and at the end of his career not very productive on every down anymore maybe just maybe he will be effective on a D-line on 3rd down situations on the jags or the steelers teams with very good defensive schemes and lines and linebackers to take pressure off him but with us he was not very productive and too injury prone LETS GO GET SOMEONE NOW E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!!!

and to philly phanatics comment...id love bringing in faneca..as much as i love will thomas and jon runyan, they are getting old and its time to move on...if not then great they are still solid players but faneca is a pro bowl caliber lineman and he would really push our line a step above what it was last year

Have either of you 2 see Jean-Gilles play before? Why would the Eagles spend BIG money to go after an older, smaller, washed up, ex-Steeler??? Jean-Gilles was our #3 selection just 2 years ago and performed well THIS year. Like em or not when the Steelers let someone walk rarely does that player play well for long, if at all. I.E., Joey Porter, Chad Brown, Levon Kirkland, Greg Lloyd, Barry Foster, Kevin Greene, Kendrell Bell. Plaxico Burress and Rod Woodson would be the exceptions.
Bottom line is Faneca is old, expensive and washed up. Jean-Gilles is young, big and selected to play in this system by these coaches. Pass that terrible Faneca pipe dream.

I love Jean-Gilles...I've said it before, out side of Runyan, He seems to be the only one out there that plays pissed off and ready to maul someone on every single play. It's why I'd love to see Otah from Pitt come here. The kid is a beast and a mauler.

very good point and that same thing happens when the eagles let ppl go...they do nothing....i like your examples you made a good point and changed my mind about faneca

wow thank god, its about time, is this definitely true? no way are we going after faneca, forget about that, we got tra and runyan for at least another season, lets get jean giles in there! lets get asante!!!

MJG would be nice to get in the mix...hes very agressive and plays with alot of energy...also very strong on the line...i like this guy and id like to see what he can do.

Alan Faneca sucks so bad hes a horrible pass blocker

That is great! That gives us $4.5 million extra cap room this year (after dead money) and next year $10 million!

finnaly good new now they better bring in some1 good at cb or wr oh by the way i hope they cut darren howard that f****ng bum

His house has been on the market for months now, Too much money too little playing time.

Buh Bye ya Freak

Holla

Faneca is an over hyped piece of garbage. Just like all Steelers. Faneca is a big name. NOT a productive football player. MJG was a first day pick for a reason.

Herremans had an up and down year at the LG postion ( he was standing right next to winston Justice when he gave up 6 sacks to Osi) and the 6'8" lineman could move to tackle and we all know Andrews was a tackle in college but why mess with a great thing. He's a Pro-Bowl Gaurd now. Either way Max "Starting Offense! Place at the table!"

KEARSE just had a stroke of bad luck.... I wish him the best...he's going back to TENN.....Herremans...to left tackle, MJG in @ left guard, jackson center, the big kid, big jon..... Bye bye TRE.......cut howard, Kimo, Reagor, mcdougle, Clear out the receivers only leave Hank,Avant,Curtis and start over Fresh.....sign Asante and justin smith from the bengals that solidifies the D....add Coleman from ATL for some depth on the D-line..... Then Draft about 2 WR's (late rounders) and get a playmaking free agent WR...the first pick should be on a DB I like Cromartie..after that we can add some DE's and O-lineman. The birds will be fine if FATBOY stops being sooo damn cautious..... E-A-G-L-E-S !!!!!

DID YOU SERIOUSLY JUST SUGGEST THAT SIGNING A PLAYER OFF THE BENGALS D WOULD HELP US?????????????????????????????????????????

I saw that too. It is not a rumor, honest! I've been looking everywhere for a link to post but could not find one. I'm sad about it, but I think there is no one that is surprised.

This could be a huge week for Philadelphia... or a huge dissapointment. I'm leaning towards the Eagles aquiring playmakers on both sides of the ball. Then proceed to have a solid draft.

I'll believe it when I see it since ESPN has become the TMZ of the sports world lately. I seriously hope they do cut Kearse, I love having him on the team...but not for 9 million. Hopefully they cut Howard as well. Sign Samuel and draft a DE like Merling/Campbell/Harvey.

cant find a sigle article on this

I just saw this on NFL network about 20 mins ago.......they still may bring him back according to adam shefter.

Justin Smith is a solid DE, and good against the run.

eagleman i like your lengthy post, lot of interesting ideas in there, you really think we should move herremans to tackle and cut tra? i dont know, i think tras got another year in him , but i love jean giles, that guys a freak, and hes got a chip on his shoulder, i disagree with ur wr options though, no way should we keep curtis/avant/baskett and start over, did u not include reggie brown because you think well have to trade him? i say the only receivers we keep are curtis and brown, trade baskett, avant, g-lew and darren howard( what the hell) to cardinals for fitz-now thats starting over!!!!

Justin Smith is best suit for a 3-4 defense...look for Pittsburgh to make a run at him. He would not fit the Eagles well at all. Also whoever mentioned Faneca...give me a break, he'd be a waste. He'd be in the same boat as Thomas/Runyan and theres no way in HELL we'd move one of the best guards in the league (BIg Kid) to tackle.

Anybody see Maylock's comments on PE.com? The guy knows his shit when it comes to the draft and I have to agree with him that Philly will address their 2 biggest needs in the first 2 rounds. DE and a CB who can return kicks

They should have traded him they probably could have gotten at least a late draft pick for him

trotter830 -- I can see what you are saying about the WR's, brown would be lost in trade....the Justin Smith idea was not one of my best ones...... on TRA...I have just seen too many false starts out of him lately and he just looks like his body is beat up....but I could be way off Tre could bounce back.

well the only think that i continue to disagree with is the DE thing, yes I agree we could use another bad ass on the end for cole, but seriously, that is NOT our biggest concern, as ive said before, we have juqcua, howard is most likely not going anywhere, and we used our second round pick on abiamiri last draft, thats a significant pick, their not just going to ignore him! our primary need lies in a kr/pr, wr, cb and safety-(to eventually replace dawk)

thing not think, sorry

yeah trotter we have to get a return man!!!!! that is a must.. what do you think about marcus pashal as the heir to replace B-dawk in a few yrs at safety. Good point on the DE issue I forgot all about Juqua and Victor ....what was i thinking about... (DUH)...... Darren howard can still get cut in my opinion......

he can still get cut in my opinion too!! what a disapointment he turned out to be...as for marcus paschal im really not sure, i dont think i know enough about the guy, what do you think?

His ball instincts are what makes him a good prospect...remember Pashal played behind bob sanders at Iowa and along side considine he knows the game of football and he is a Soild tackler. he was all over the place against Buffalo....He only had one solo tackle and a few assists but he was where he needed to be all the time....... I think if we stay patient w/ him and do not rush him on the field ...we have a nice starter for yrs to come.

ok well im all for it if your right, i just need to see the guy do something before im ready to say hes the dawk of the future, know what i mean brotha

Oh yeah I feel you 110%....he has to show and prove.....We just have to bring him along slowly and be patient......HEY what the heck happened with that whole Jeremy bloom experiment.....from what I saw he was progressing.......

i doubt it man, bloom really is just not good, he was averaging like 5 yards a return in the preseason wasnt he?

Bloom was out of football shape. The Birds blew it on this pick. We would have probably made the playoffs if Reno was on the team vs. the Packers. But whatever...this year we will be better.

yup hopefully

yeah cut kearse and his salary that will free up alot of space since he makes the most out of anyone on the eagles. I think Mcdougle should get cut also but i say keep Howard for depth at DE in case of an injury or whatever. i agree we have got to get a return man one option being overlooked is mikey henderson of georgia he has run a reported 4.36 40 time. he plays WR but is undersized there at only 5'8" so the eagles could probaby get him in the 3rd round or so. another option is Tom Zbikowski of Notre Dame. He runs about a 4.4 to 4.5 40 time. is 6ft. 200lbs and plays SS so if the eagles could grab him they would get a SS which they need and a return specialist. He had a bit of an off year in his senior year but who didnt at Notre Dame. he could also be had in the 3rd or 4th round. I like Desean jackson as a return man as much as everyone else its just i dont see the value in spending a first round pick on someone who in my mind is only going to be a return specialist when Henderson could be had much later in the draft with the same type of size and speed.

Do the Eagles keep Howard or draft a DL with Mike Pattersons suspension and legal problems looming?

What kind of cap room do the Eagles have after the release of Kearse? I know they 16-18 million in cap room prior to this move, about Mike Patterson if its hid first violation and if its only pot he should just get fined but idk the whole story.
