For the first time in team history—including after their Super Bowl year—the Ravens will open their season on Monday Night Football against the Cincinnati Bengals at Paul Brown Stadium. This will be the Ravens' fourth road opener in the last five seasons, and the opening road has not been kind to Baltimore in the past. The Ravens have lost three of their previous four road openers, with the single win coming against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers last year. The Bengals have had a tumultuous August with their roster, mostly due to injuries. The preseason games (1-3 record) weren't too pretty. But Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis treats the preseason as pure lab-experiment, and has kept basically the same demeanor as he did during an 4-0 preseason in 2006. Offensively, the Bengals have one of the NFL's best skill position lineups, but the line did not get a preseason start from OTs Willie Anderson and Levi Jones, due to injury rehab.   • I'm excited to see how Willis fares tonight.
  • Last year, the Bengals defense ranked 15th against the run and tied for last against the pass. Even with that, the Ravens were unable to truly capitalize on the last-ranked passing defense. Perhaps this was because of the see-saw play of Jamal Lewis. This game, along with the next two or three, will be a real test to see if they can find a balanced offense that is both a threat in passing and rushing. Willis McGahee's success (or failure) will go a long way to showing that result.
  • I think how Willis fares tonight and all season long will reflect how well we do as a whole. His performance will demonstrate how well the offense has prepared and is game-ready; the offensive line, play calling, and even Willis himself will all be under the microscope when #23 lines up for the ball.
