LZ Granderson is a sports writer for ESPN's Page 2. He wrote a long article filled with misdirection, emotional manipulation and speculation about Brady Quinn and how he wants a longer investigation into an alleged incident involving the word "faggot" outside of a bar in Columbus on New Year's eve.

I have no question that Brady Quinn is gay. But, is there any more paranoid B.S. term than "the gay agenda"? Do, idiot ultra-conservatives honestly believe that gay people are meeting in secret pink HomoHQs around the world grinding their hands together like Mr. Burns and plotting world domination? There is no gay agenda, they just want to be treated like humans. Now, conversely, there is a HUGE overpowering conservative agenda. Example #1, this headline. Be aware! Them gays is after yer buttholes! They've been plotting on making sweet love to my 65 year old, grey, flabby anus for years, and I fear they may now have the agenda prepared to follow through! Run for the hills! You gonna get the gay on you!

Craig, are you suggesting that ESPN is making a big deal out of one little incident?! For their own publicity?! I am shocked and I'm sure Quinn is the only athlete who has called someone a "faggot".
  • My question is, "Who cares?" This sounds like it was blow WAY out of proportion. Brady is from Notre Dame, a catholic institution, and the catholic religion is against homosexuality. So we already know that he doesn't like homosexuals. So what
  • Brown_Town
Has anyone actually read the article yet? Y'all seem to be missing the point. Craig lays out the facts of the case, arguably none of which point to Brady Quinn having done anything wrong. It sounds like he was the victim of an overzealous finger-pointer. But the facts haven't been widely reported.

    Great article, Craig.

IIt sounds blown out of proportion. Besides, a lot of guys yell stuff about the other guy's 'manhood' when they are in a verbal fight. NBD. Brady Quinn is hot. Send him to NE as a trade for Cassel.

    Quinn is a queer
  • FilteringCraig
Thanks for the comments. Quinn might be guilty. My real problem was that I felt like LZ Granderson was using two, one where he is the sole provider of facts and another that is the nation's worst example of bigotry against gay people to paint a picture of Brady Quinn without substantiation that warrants further exploration.

wow, you COMPLETELY missed the point of his ENTIRE article. gay agenda? for not wanting to get the shit beat out of him by homophobes? wow.

now that i look at the comments as a whole, it's quite apparent no one read the article and are going solely on your sensationalist headline...
  • mercedes1
if brady called me gay i would call him a booger eater lol !!
  • FilteringCraig
IFChris, you don't know what you are talking about. LZ states BLATANTLY that he HAS an agenda. He is using Brady Quinn to FORWARD that agenda by contrasting it with MUCH different situations.
Maybe you should read my article AND LZ Granderson's article before you spout off two comments in a row that make very little sense.

Yeah, his agenda is not to get beat up by gay bashers.

      How very calculating of him.

Are you sure you read the article at all or did you see "LZ Granderson," "Brady Quinn," and "Gays" and started in with your assumptions?
      • FilteringCraig
IFChris, you didn't read LZ Granderson's article.
He says that that is his agenda, but meanwhile he is taking a situation which NO VIOLENCE WAS REPORTED INVOLVING BRADY QUINN, and he is comparing it to his incident where he was assaulted and also the most brutal, murderous beating of a gay person in the history of the country.
It is unfair. It is uncalled for. Granderson is using Brady Quinn unfairly. Bottom line.

          wow, here's his quote:

For those of you who are reading this and believe I'm trying to forward some sort of agenda, let me be the first to tell you that you are absolutely correct. I want a country where it isn't OK to get the snot kicked out of you because you're different.

what a bastard. furthermore, it was behavior LIKE QUINN'S that led to Granderson's incident in New Orleans as it is. are you honestly saying one doesn't proceed the other? What makes Quinn's remarks so much better than the thugs who wanted to beat Granderson?

          because he's a Cleveland Brown?
  • FilteringCraig
IFChris, Quinn's behavior ALLEGEDLY. Now it is time for you to read my article. The police didn't arrest Quinn. They arrested the OTHER guy. But because he is the famous guy, he must have been the problem. The 9-1-1 caller backed off when the press called him later. All signs point to people trying to take advantage of Quinn because he is famous, but you can't get off it.

If Quinn's situation were like the one that Granderson found himself in, we would be reading about Brady Quinn being up on assault charges. IT JUST ISN'T THERE. No matter how hard you or Granderson want that to be the case, the fact is that all we have is one alleged word instead of the assault that you and Granderson seem to want to uncover. IT ISN'T THERE.

Quinn didn't beat anyone down. Quinn didn't get into a fist fight. If anything, because the OTHER guy was arrested for getting physical with the cops, doesn't it seem like HE was the problem?

I guess not. You would prefer to continue a witch hunt because LZ Granderson got beat up by a bunch of bigots in LOUISIANA.

when the cops got there, they saw and heard Quinn yelling... just FYI.

I don't know if Brady Quinn is guilty of gay-bashing or not, but that's not LZ's point. Here's what I think:

A simple incident of name-calling--such as the incident Brady Quinn was allegedly involved in--can lead to the kind of situation LZ found himself in. It's not too much of a stretch to step that up to another Matthew Shepard. LZ absolutely has an agenda, and it's to increase awareness of homophobia--of which all the events he cites are examples--and stamp it out. THAT is the point of LZ's article.

As for the phrase "gay agenda" in your title, I believe it to be sensational, and I echo the sentiments of IFChris and rotodestroyer. After reading your article, I deem you an intelligent person. Therefore, I'm sure you understand the connotation society has placed on the phrase "gay agenda" and thus must be using it to misrepresent a story and imply your own personal agenda without having to actually state your feelings. Words are a wonderful thing--well played.
