Matt Ryan signs $72 million contract with Falcons, $34 million guaranteed

Former Boston College QB Matt Ryan just became the richest rookie in the history of the NFL, as he signed a 6 year deal worth up to $72 million with all incentives reached, but $34 million is guaranteed! I can't believe that these rookies get so much money when they haven't done anything in the league yet. I guess that's why the owners are opting out of the collective bargaining agreement, because they're tired of paying so much money for unproven players.

Can't believe that these contracts continue to grow by so much...just 3 years ago Alex Smith signed a record $50 million deal and he's a complete bust

STUPID STUPID STUPID!! I can not believe that a rookie has the audacity to ask for that kind of money!! Or should I say that a organization is willing to pay that kind of money. They should make a new rule, if the guy is a bust he must return half of the money!

Well, that'a lot of money to pay a QB who hasn't played a snap in the NFL. Several posts on here about paying players money up front that they haven't earned. This is one of them. Well, I guess Michael Vick can forget about coming back to ATL. That love affair is certainly over now. Wow.......can I just get a $10M dollar contract for doing nothing?

UNREAL! Hopefully for Atlanta Matt will be at lest a good Backup.

holy $$$$ , that's all i got $$$$$$ well they were lookin to start him were they not? man that is just crazy sick and i thought howie's kid made out good in miami............

Kind of debunks the theory about greedy owners.

OUCH!!!! and a $$$$$$$$$$$

Thats alot

chris long is howie long's son, chris is a DE who was drafted by the Rams. Jake Long, the first pick, is not related to Howie.

^ this is correct. and thats a lot of coin. falcons fans, it could only get worse if this backfires!

odd, my bad, i had read they were both ........mearly made the ref, because of the money either way $$$ :)

Not deserved and ill even go as far as to say he will be a bust. Book it.

Personally, I think he was the best pro-style QB in the draft with an accurate arm. I wouldn't sell him short just yet, but the money is still way out of bounds for a new player.

He looks very very happy. Is there a stipulation in the contract labeled "refund"?

They should start putting that refund stipulation in there.
