My Two Cents On The Eagles WR Situation

Now everyone complains that we need WR's and I'm one of the main ones with this sreaming it at the top of my lungs. But unlike many people I'm not going to say Reid doesnt address the WR position, because he does, but he's just bad at it. The problem is the people he drafts at that position sucked well I'm not even really going to say that, because who knows if Mitchell had a good WR coach that knew how to develop that talent he might have lasted. But anyway some of the problems are is that Reid brings in people that dont fit the system, lets forget about Mitchell and Stinkston for a min. Examples Michael Gasperson, Bill Sampy, and for two seasons J.J. Outlaw, names sound familiar? Yeah they should being as though they've been signed to the PS for the last three years, and havent seen any playing time with the exception of the lil 5 mins of fame Gasperson had in the N.O. game but fucked it up. Bill Sampy havent seen shit from him, and well Outlaw now plays for the Philadelphia Soul.

That's the problem AR has he drafts people that dont fit the system or for some reason cant grasp the playbook in order to get some playing time. Not to mention I dont know what the hell is wrong with the WR coach well I do know...... he cant coach obviously ,if he cant develop rookies into quality players, if you come from another team and you go to the Eagles you're cool, but if you're a rookie there's no hope for you. And you know I'm right Mitchell, and Pinkston no longer in the NFL, McMullen just started to see playing time with the Vikings after two years of riding pine in Philly. So what does that say? To me a lot, either he needs to hire a new WR coach, simplify the playbook, or to me the most important one is give up his GM position. This is my take on our WR situation if you guys think I'm wrong please let me know. Other than that I think I'm on point, its not that Reid doesnt draft or bring in WR's it's that he aint good at it, and they dont fit the Eagles version of the WCO.

I am not hating on Reid at all, and I can never do so. It is because of McNabb and the fat man, that we are always in it from year to year (exception of 1 year), and we made it to 4 consecutive NFC championship games (and a superbowl that we were cheated out of but that is for another day). We won the division 5 times out of the last 7 years which just shows are dominance we have had....and its all cause of the fat man. We have just had some bad luck with the WRs. I think this year the Eagles will get it right. But yes, we can't hate on Reid. I was a fan even through the 3 win season, I love my Eagles, and bleed green for life. Even worse, I was born in NY and have lived in North NJ since 91 (20 min from Giant's stadium), so you know how things are for me lol. I will stay patient, and hopefully this year, I will be in Tampa with the Eagles :).

Wow I don't know how you are able to live near all the Gnat fans. Ouch!!! I hate the Gnats almost as much as I hate the Cowboys. I agree with you gunna20. It has to be either the coach or the system is too complicated that young WRs can't pick it up.

Be patient. I was checking out the Philly website the past few days and believe that Banner, Heckert and Reid all agree that we need to do SOMETHING. I think that they realize that WR is a huge need and that we will press hard to TRADE for a top tier talent at WR (A la that 81 guy). That was a "success" and I doubt they forgot how important that move was to our football team (at least for one year).

i couldn't AGREE with you more!!!!!!! excellent!!!!!!!

GREAT POST!!!! I THINK THE ONLY THAT FAT PHUCK IS GOOD AT IS ORDERING A PEPPERONI PIZZA STEAK HOAGIE!!!"

I have nothing against reid and like him as a coach but someone else needs to draft for us

i agree but its still bullshit, hes a head coach in the national football league you guys!!! jesus christ, he should know every position and be good at bring in talent FOR EVERY POSITION, not just o and d lineman!!! to say that hes just not good with wr's may be true but its completely absurd and no disrespect to AR cuz i love the guy, if he doesnt know anything about wide receivers then maybe he should become an offensive line coach because thats a fucking joke, hey ive been saying it for a long time you guys, we need to bring in an outsider, like a parcells to come in here and clean house, get rid of all the bullshit players and bring in some talent, UNDER ANY MEANS NECESSARY!!!!!

I agree with you but we all know Reid aint gonna fire himself, that would have to come from Lurie, who is about the most absentee owner I've ever seen. Until Lruie fires Reid as GM, it will be same ole BS.

I have a funny feeling that the Luries provide facilities and money and that's the extent of the ownership model in Philly. Hey it's worked for the Phillies for so long, why be different? Last year was the time to add a GM and they didn't which tells me it ain't gunna happen until Reid leaves or is fired (also not gunna happen)

who is about the most absentee owner I've ever seen

OH GOD U READ MY THOUGHTS, that's scary LOL!

I couldn't agree more with you Gunna, its why they need a Veteran with proven abilities at WR. Or shake it up a little bit and figure out what you were looking for and determine if you need to bring someone in to help you make these decisions. As the key to the WCO you'd think after so many swings and big misses, that maybe you'd bring someone in that is PROVEN that they can get things done.

Let's not forget help may be on the way...Mike Holmgren retires at the end of this year. Maybe the eagles can place him on retainer for some damn advice.

Here is a novel idea...how about draft the right players for the position. And maybe scaling down the playbook so it's not so difficult for a player to learn? I think that has a lot to do with it. It shouldn't take two years to learn an offense. Either you get it or you don't. I also think the teams needs a new wideout coach. The one the Eagles obviously can not develop talent.

I agree with not drafting the right recievers. that isn't the only fault i see with the draft. why can't we get a immediate impact player in there first year?? ie patrick willis, ryans, leron landry. even the giants had a kick ass draft last year. i don't like paying guys for 4 years to see if they might make it. trade up some of our many picks and get some studs, don't trade down to get duds. not ever one dependable return man in 5 years, which we desperatly need, Bloom whatever.

right on noah...I couldn't have said it better myself

That's my point I was just using the WR position because that's the one he's missed on the most. But yeah the problem is the people he's brought in dont fit the system or cant learn the playbook. So he needs to let someone else do the drafting or get better scouts. It's sad that the last time we had a td on special teams was when Brian Mitchell was here.

That damn playbook is the source of the problem. Even veterans have a hard time on both sides of the ball integrating, I know that usually happens, but the learning curve over here just seems to take so much longer. TKO said it in one of his blogs on PE.com. It took him to game 6-7 before he started feeling comfortable with the system.

if this a proven book then why no lombardi trophies?reid's arrogance and micro-managing skills won't change either!!! the giants won the big dance by running the ball then setting up the pass!!! and good d!!! this allowed that retard eli to do his thing and have his playmakers make plays!!!! people already know what we're gonna do most of the time anyway!!! my favorite is when you are 3rd and one reids solution is have mc nabb to scramble to the right and try to find one of sorry wide outs open down field!!! it never works!!! except in '04 when we had T.O.!!!

yeah i agree they players they choose dont fit the system. they need to bring in an outside person to evaluate talent at the WR position because they are obviously not good at it. Also i think this year the eagles do something about the WR position because they have about 20 million in cap space.

Lets keep our fingers crossed. If they do go out there and get a big name, it would make you wonder how much influence the Dmac blog on YB had with there decision process.

i think the QB's opinon has a huge influence on what a team does look at the patriots im sure brady had something to do with bringing in randy moss and we know all about Big Ben wanting a tall WR which he had before the Steelers let Burress go. So i think the eagles will get a big time WR in free agency or a trade

Good point Brady was probably involved.

da eagles are a very cheap team thas why they wount win 1 to cheap

they have to spend the Money!!! BOTTOM LINE .....it cannot be that hard.....they need to Hire MOOOCH....as the O coordinator......let him call the plays...... call Jerry Rice and have him come work with these WR's in training camp... SIMPLIFY THE PLAYBOOK IS A MUST...... get some born playmakers...... not a smart guy who is an o.k. athlete.

Bring back Jerry!

i liked this opinion alot its a different view of things and look u might be completely right, we never draft round 1 receivers and the top receivers we have brought in in the past were avant and brown, and they arent really amazing players, reggie brown showed hope but had an average year last year and avant isnt anything more than a 4th or 3rd on any team, i just think we need to bring in a WR that is proven already in the league to bring in...and i think mcnabb, westbrook etc. call for playmakers will be answered this year finally by bringing in a gamebreaker at wide receiver, who knows who it will be but i think theyll bring someone in

I totally agree with you guys, but the WR position has been bleek for over 20 years! We have only had 2 WR's if you think about it (Chris Carter and Terrell owens) that is as pathetic as it gets, especially having 2 great QB's like Mc Nabb and Cunningham. As Eagle fans we should be more upset at the front office and coaches for not providing 2 all time greats like Randall and Donovan with more options to throw too. Mc Nabb was unquestionablly the best QB with owens, Imagine what he would do with Bradys options!!!! we would be unstopable!!!!! What's gonna end up happening is we'll trade Mc Nabb and he'll have a blowout year with a team that will actually have support from him and we'll end up kicking ourselves in the ass again!!!

1. i don't get the angry bulldog but Ok!, it has nothing to do with what we're talking about, 2. get post, really pulled out all the stops. 3. get stalworth back he helped in the stretching of the field depot. and would everyone stop pissing on Coach Reid and the draft picks, some times they just don't work out. do you know how hard it is to get good quality players when you're finishing on the top of the league almost evry year. it's hard when your picking last, it's like fantasy football, you only get a certain amount of picks depending on different moves and trades you made over the last several years, then you train these guys and evaluate them and see what you got.

ya ur right but it just seems to me that everyone else is drafting these unbelievable immediate impact players and other than shawn andrews, we havent really seen any pro bowl caliber players, have you? and yes i know the pro bowl is bullshit and yes i know the giants won a ring without more than 1 or 2 pro bowl players but you know what i mean
