NFL owners vote unanimously to opt out of labor deal

so here we have it !!!

The NFL officially notified its players union on Tuesday that it will opt out of the current collective bargaining agreement, which could lead to a season without a salary cap in 2010 and a possible lockout in 2011.

Owners voted unanimously Tuesday morning to opt out of the deal, which was extended in March, 2006. The NFL had until November to opt out of the deal, but decided to do it early instead of waiting for the deadline.

The league, however, emphasized that it will keep negotiating with the NFL Players Association and said games will be played "without threat of interruption for at least the next three seasons."

"A collective bargaining agreement has to work for both sides," the NFL said Tuesday morning. "If the agreement provides inadequate incentives to invest in the future, it will not work for management or labor. And, in the context of a professional sports league, if the agreement does not afford all clubs an opportunity to be competitive, the league can lose its appeal."

Well, I'm glad I have a good college team to fall back on. I remember the last strike season.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO i cannot go with NO football~hell not it's not even an option!!!!!

They will just do like last time and field a half-a**ed team with a bunch of scabs that cross the picket line. Won't be very good football, but at least you'll have something.........LOL.

*lays head on desk & cries*
no way, they have got to stop this !!!!!

ok, i'm so retardly upset right now, that i typed hell not when i meant HELL NO

Just think. you might have Kevin Kolb as your QB and we'll have a QB from a small TX school that hasn't played a down of NFL football. Won't that be fun?

his commentary is not the best, but he makes a HUGE point!!

Yeah, he has a point there. Need to nip it in the bud now. On the other hand, the fans will come back just like they did last time. I'm not sure what the relationship is between Upshaw and Goodell, but they do need to start working on this issue and not wait until 2011 and go........"Oh sh*t!!!"........

Just remember that this one is about the owners. The players are happy and they are not a part of the problem...for now.

great log in to find this well we all knew it was comin

Leave it up to the Michael Vick signing bonus to contribute to this. An NFL without the salary cap is scary, but I'm not going to gripe about it too much. Dallas had some of their best years without a cap. It's going to hurt the small markets though.

alright i had to sit and watch those video's ah hell i have no words

Damn Damn, Damn......I cant deal without any football. The Birds are the only team in this city I fall back on to have some entertainment and hopes of winning a chip. WFT!!!!!!!

Well, there's always Temple and Villanova. Not getting excited yet?

no me neither but maybe they will come to an agreement yeah i know

they have 2 1/2 years , they better get to talking.........they are going to push one another to the limits that is fo sure!!!

fo sure!!!

yeah mkay-FOR SURE........doh!!
