In what was an incredibly disappointing display by the Packer defense last Sunday, Nick Barnett lit a firestorm after doing his samurai celebration after a tackle, drawing boos from the crowd and ending up what will be heralded as the first instance of an NFL player taking his Twitter and going home.Yes, Nick brought some criticism, and in his own words, some of it deserved. When you're getting trounced, its not usually looked on with high approval to be doing some me-first celebrations on the field. The crowd let him know, Barnett let them know how he felt, and the sun came up the following morning.Aaron over at CHTV decided to launch a salvo at Packer fans who have been critical of Barnett's actions, which then turned into one of the biggest Internet slapfights in recent memory. My take:I agree with Brian Carriveau on the topic of "acting like you've been there before" when it comes to professional sports. I realize that Chad Johnson gets a lot of our own media guys excited beca...

Preseason expectations of the Packers are blinding some

Ask just about any media outlet who the breakout team of 2009 would be before the season started, and odds were you were going to hear the Green Bay Packers.  After all, they had absolutely dominated all four preseason games and looked pinpoint accurate on offense.  Their defense had stayed pretty much vanilla on the [...]

Practice notes: No surprises

Not much news to report out of the open portion of this morning's practice on Clarke Hinkle Field, where only safety Atari Bigby (knee) and left tackle Chad Clifton (ankle) sat out. Reporters got the boot earlier than usual, so it's unclear how much the other guys who were limited on Wednesday -- safety Nick Collins (chest), K Mason Crosby (abdominal), fullback Korey Hall...

Look for the Green Bay Packers to target the TEs more

With Aaron Rodgers under durress quite often (he’s been sacked 10 times) the Packers need to look to throw shorter passes.  TEs Jermichael Finley and Donald Lee are both solid receivers so Rodgers will be looking for them.  Finley has caught 5 passes for 62 yards (12.4 avg) this seaon so far.  Lee has caught [...]

Packers do safety dance, too

With Atari Bigby out for now and Nick Collins dinged up, the Packers have decided to make a fairly significant change in the last line of defense.Aaron Rouse, a third-round pick in 2007 who started in Sunday's loss to the...

Charles Woodson is off to a blazing start for the Green Bay Packers

The Packers are allowing 217.0 yards passing this season but you can’t blame that on Charles Woodson.  Woodson has made 12 tackles, 1 for a loss, he’s defensed 2 passes and he has picked off two passes (1 returned for a TD).  With Al Harris on the other side it forces teams to challenge each [...]

Hasselbeck Could Start Sunday

The Seahawks' gameplan for Sunday's game against the Bears is simple: Start whoever's healthy. That all begins with Matt Hasselbeck, who fractured a rib last week in a 23-10 loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Coach Jim Mora said even if Hasselbeck doesn't practice all week, there is still a chance he could play. If he can't go, Seneca Wallace (not Williams) will...

Series with Rams has gone distance

The Green Bay Packers' series with the Rams has involved three cities over seven decades: Cleveland, Los Angeles, and St. Louis. The Rams' time in Cleveland was interrupted by World War II. The team was based in Ohio from 1937-'42 and 1944-'45 before the franchise moved to Los Angeles in 1946 and then to St. Louis in 1995. Collectively, the Rams own a 45-41-2 advantage...

Battered Seahawks aren't ruling QB Matt Hasselbeck out of Sunday's game against Chicago

Bennett Grateful For Mentor Like Croom

Every time he sees him, and it will be no different this weekend at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis, Green Bay Packers running backs coach Edgar Bennett can't help but remember the long, sit-down conversation eight years ago. It was with Sylvester Croom, now the running backs coach of Sunday's opposing St. Louis Rams, in Croom's office at Lambeau Field - the same...
