Although the Seahawks had a tough loss this Sunday, Seahawks fans have no reason to panic, yet. The Seahawks proved that they can run the ball effectively, and that their young receivers can step up. Most notably John Carlson, who had a breakout game with some key receptions.
One area of concern is the defensive secondary. Deon Grant prides himself on not being beaten deep. However there were numerous instances where he strayed away from the best aspect of his game and went for a big hit or a big play. He needs to stay back in coverage and make sure nobody gets behind him. Also, the 49ers killed the Hawks on third down and long, often completing wide open passes over the middle of the field.
Offensively, it was apparent that we do not have a deep threat. The young receivers were great on short receptions, but the long ball was not there at all. The Seahawks have to bounce back next week and I am confident that they will.
The drive they had at the end of the third quarter into the fourth was the best I have seen in a while from the Hawks. It looked like the offense of 2004-05, running on first down, usually completing a pass on second, and I saw a confidence on third and short that this team had been lacking last year as well as the year before.
If we can get a win next week Seahawk fans have a reason to be optimistic. After Week 3 the Hawks have a bye week. By then, hopefully Engram and Branch will be back. Those two combined with Hawks' new found running game and John Carlson should be enough to win the division at least. It may be a rocky road to the playoffs but don't lose hope on our Hawks just yet.

NHL Combine

The NHL is in it's last day of the NHL Combine for the upcoming NHL Draft. TSN has a nice live blog going. Today is the physical aspect of the Combine. One of the major events is the bench press just like at the NFL Combine. Unlike the NFL where you have to bench press 225lbs, the players will only have to bench press 150lbs. Colin Wilson from Boston University did 21 reps...

For the final big test before April's NFL Draft, ND held its annual Pro Day on Wednesday in front of 31 scouts from 23 different NFL teams. Und.com has the complete rundown of all the various times and quotes from the day, but here are some of the highlights.John Carlson was the main attraction as he...

Keeping It Real

As we all know training camp is preparing to start all around the league.  Once this happens, I imagine blogs league wide will be in-depthly scrutinizing every aspect of what goes on day to day.  We will be reading lines like, 'Seahawks rookie John Carlson made a diving one handed catch against the first team [...]

Letter to the Editor

As he begins his prep work for the NFL Draft, John Carlson set aside some time to write a letter for Notre Dame Magazine. We're going to skip the color commentary for now and let the letter speak for itself.I still have vivid memories of setting foot inside Notre Dame Stadium for the first time. ...

My Final Word On Mays (For Now)

I posted this in the comments section in the last Mays post, but I thought that since the subject has stirred up so much controversy, I should bring it up to the main page. Kevin and I are not necessarily in agreement on this one, and I won't detail all the reasons. I don't like him as a prospect, but this the bottom line reason on why we should not draft him. I will not talk about...

The Del Zotto/Grachev Shot

There are two very good reasons why when we hear The Sather speak about New York Ranger young players that we get very nervous. The first is Michael Del Zotto and the second Evgeny Grachev as every time The Sather says he is not going to move young players we do not trust him because his actions always say otherwise.A prospect like a Michael Del Zotto is going to need time to...

Two Top Seahawks Draft Picks Are Camp No-Shows

The Seahawks two top draft picks failed to report to training camp on Tuesday with the rest of the rookies to prepare for practices on Friday.  The team told the "Seattle Post-Intelligencer" USC defensive lineman Lawrence Jackson and Notre Dame tight end John Carlson have yet to sign or agree to contracts.  The team says they are confident they can agree to terms by the...

Baltimore Ravens injury update

Tight end Quinn Sypniewski injured his knee during today's practice. The injury may be serious, which is a shame because starter Todd Heap is bound to get injured as well at some point. Happens every year. Replacing Sypniewski: The Ravens may want to target Notre Dame TE John Carlson, who is a day-two guy in next weekend's NFL Draft, with good hands and sharp instincts...

Seahawks vs. 49ers: Week 2 Preview

This is a big, big week for us. We gotta beat the 49ers. When the Seahawks are on offense Look for John Carlson to get a lot of balls thrown his way. (I know I'm going to start him for my team). We will be running the ball early and often, so our handicapped line (losing Sims hurts more than any of our WR troubles) has to step up and open holes. If they do that, then this...

Ragone Out for Season as Notre Dame 2 Weeks from Opening Weekend

What to do now? Mike Ragone, Notre Dame's projected starting Tight End is done for the year this afternoon after deciding to go forward with surgery on his left knee. Ragone tried to practice on the knee for a few days before deciding to go with the surgery, he will now be shelved for the 2008 season. To Ragone's credit he did not immediately opt for surgery and practiced...
