With the first preseason game in the books, the Oakland Raiders now have their first test out of the way. Coming into this game several things had to be addressed. Would the Raiders be able to move the ball? Would the defense be able to hold up? Could the players limit penalties or foolish actions that have limited their ability to score in the past? After last night's game, the Raiders learned that while they can do much, they can also do much, much more. The first question, can we move the ball, was obvious. In the air game, JaMarcus Russell passed for 50 yards on six completions. On one drive, the Raiders were helped by a pass interference call, moving upfield by 47 yards. As the second team rolled in and players started were being replaced, the yardage continued to add up, with Bruce Gradkowski gaining 161 yards with a touchdown pass. Another QB later, and Charlie Frye was in the game and had 80 yards, another TD on seven out of 12 passes. Overall, Oakland had 291 yards pass...

With Greg Ellis in Oakland, there might be some awkward moments

Preseason games usually aren't very entertaining, much less the pregame and postgame activities. There could be an exception tonight with Greg Ellis in a Raiders uniform. It'll be interesting to see what, if any, interaction Ellis has with DeMarcus Ware. The pass rushers always had a good relationship, but Ellis put Ware in an uncomfortable position with the bizarre claims...

Mike Mickens gets beaten again

Mike Mickens has given up the most training camp touchdowns of any Cowboys cornerback. Now, he's given up a preseason touchdown, too. Will Franklin got way too open on a fade route for an easy 2-yard TD from Charlie Frye. Raiders 31, Cowboys 10 with 9:45 to go. You really shouldn't feel obligated to watch the rest of this game.

Cowboys only have one young tackle worth watching

Hudson Houck sounds optimistic about his two young offensive tackles. "We want to see if what we have been working on in camp translates into a game environment," Houck said in David Moore's column about the depth (or lack thereof) of the offensive line. Doug Free has had a solid camp. There's some reason to hope that he can end (or at least interrupt) the Cowboys...

Cowboys FB Deon Anderson Is Out For A Month

Josh Ellis reports from his twitter page that Cowboys Fullback Deon Anderson had arthroscopic surgery on his knee and is out a month. Backup FB...

TD drive was display of offense's potential

WR Roy Williams referred to the Cowboys' nine-play, 71-yard touchdown drive as "doing what we do best." Well, what exactly do the Cowboys do best? "Everything," Williams replied with a grin. Williams makes a decent point. The beauty of the Cowboys' offense could be in the balance this season, regarding run/pass ratio and spreading the wealth among the...

Dallas Cowboys' debut shows there's still some work to do

Wade Phillips brings the blitz

The Raiders might not have expected Wade Phillips to bust out the elaborate blitz packages in a preseason game, unless they recalled the Broncos whining about that a couple of years ago. Keith Brooking came clean up the middle to get to JaMarcus Russell. Bradie James also blitzed, taking advantage of a blocking scheme sliding DeMarcus Ware's way. Ware dropped back in coverage...
