ESPN draft analyst Mel Kiper Jr. believes the Panthers are -- and should be -- serious about possibly making a move up in the first round of the draft to get Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan. "I've been talking about it for a month and a half," Kiper said on a conference call with reporters this morning. "Carolina needs a quarterback. I like Matt Moore. But if you want to make a big splash ... They need some excitement. "If you asked people on the street, 'Who's on the Carolina offense?' not many people can answer after (WR) Steve Smith. They need playmakers. They need a little personality on the offensive side of the ball. "They need a face for the organization." Kiper said he sees no way Ryan will fall past the Baltimore Ravens with the No. 8 pick, and that Carolina would have to trade up to get him, probably with New England at No. 7. He said the Panthers would become a factor if the Atlanta Falcons (third pick) and Kansas City Chiefs (fifth) pass on Ryan.

  • My question is what are the Falcon's going to do in order to address the QB position. They too should be looking at Ryan. I understand the majority beleive they will take Dorsey out of LSU. If that is what they decide to do, they must have a plan in the second or third round. Maybe Joe Flacco??

Raider legend Steve Smith needs help

Over the summer, the battle between the NFL Players Association and the retired players reached a fever pitch. This battle is not some abstract amorphous debate to those who laid their bodies on the line to make the NFL the money printing machine that it is. Steve Smith is one of those retired players who faces the reality of the NFL's lack of health care for its retirees every day...

Falcons' Blank Sends Vick, Fans Clear Message

The signing of Matt Ryan to a long-term, high guaranteed money deal sends a clear message to Michael Vick and the NFL's largest black ticket base: Vick's not coming back as a QB under any circumstances.

Beavers get Licked

Peace!Ahem. I couldn't help but notice this little article from some website called house of heat or something of that ilk. To wit: 9/22, Oregon State: Nobody in Corvallis realizes how much they're going to miss departed QB Matt Moore. He was the heart and soul of the team that beat USC and I don't e...

Shane Victorino and Julian Tavarez Exchange Words, Benches Clear

Some strange goings on at The Bank last night in the bottom of the eighth. With the Phillies getting whupped 10-4, Shane Victorino was taking a healthy lead off of 3rd with two outs and Matt Stairs at the plate. Braves reliever and perpetual weirdo, Julian Tavarez, took a peek over and noticed Victorino was chatting it up with 3rd base coach Steve Smith so he decided to sprint...

Overacheivers vs. Underacheivers: Week 4

So, last week I nailed some big time predictions, namely Steve Smith (16 total yards), Ronnie Brown (112 rushing yards, 2 rushing TDs, 99 receiving yards, 1 receiving TD, 1 2-pt Conversion), and Frank Gore (51 total yards). But, while I nailed some big ones I lost some other ones and my total percentage fell to 56% on the season. Here's where I reenact Week 2 when I got 10 of...

Blog Down Breakdown: CHI 20 ATL 22

At the risk of sounding ungrateful, Kyle Orton's AMAZING touchdown throw to Rashied Davis just ruined this entire post. I guess it doesn't pay to start writing before the game is over, huh? Short of drawing on manly stubble with a marker, outfitting him in Wrangler jeans, and teaching him how to speak with an oh-so-gentle southern draw, the Bears couldn't have made...

Refs Rob Falcons for a Shot to Win in Philly

by Matt Loede, NFL Gridiron GabSometimes you get the calls a?" sometimes you don't. Sunday in Philly, the Falcons were by all means robbed by the refs, as the stripes called a fumble on a punt when it looked like Adam Jennings may have touched the ball on the Falcons 40 with 2:28 to go.If the Falcons get the ball, which they should have, they would have had a shot for rookie...
