MVN:
The rivalry between the Patriots and Jets have always been there as part of the AFC East division. Most older fans will say they hate Miami more than the Jets, but that is history.
Over a decade ago, Bill Parcells and his crew left new England and went back to New York. But instead of going back to blue they chose the New York Green to coach the Jets.
The Tuna Bowl was then established and since then the water has been muddied more than the Charles or Hudson rivers would ever hope to be. Alas we do love that dirty water!
Between New England grabbing Bill Belichick to Coach the Patriots for a number one draft pick to Eric Mangini running to New York to be a head coach with the Jets after only one mediocre season as a defensive coordinator (trying to steal coaches and players along the way), the Patriots have been the better team from the owner and coach, down to the special teams players.
Therefore, it comes to no surprise that when a new coach arrives for the Jets, he has to look to New England as the top dog in the AFC East. Sorry Miami, you won the AFC East in '08, but it was based ona tie season of 11-5 with the Patriots having a first time starter since high school....
I loved Buddy Ryan as a coach (the Eagles are my favorite NFC team) and his son Rob Ryan did well with the Patriots winning two Super Bowls under Belichick before getting lost in the black hole known as the Oakland Raiders.
You also have to like Rex Ryan, his boisterous ways remind me more of his dad Buddy than his brother Rob. But he has had one of the best defensive groups in the NFL for a long time in Baltimore.
In 2007, the Ravens had three sacks and an interception versus the record breaking offense of the New England Patriots. The Patriots did well enough throwing the ball, but Tom Brady had a shaky day going 18 of 38 for 257 yards. The running back by committee failed to reach 100 yards and Brady ran for 14 of them.
It can be viewed that Brady may have a similar type of game this week while he is still shaking off the rust and facing a Jets defense that pressured the quarterback and had two sacks, an interception and a forced fumble. The Jets did blitz quite a bit versus the Texans - even sending in eight at one point. So expect Brady to be pressured and the Jets learning from Buffalo to play all 60 minutes of the game.
As a side note: the Jets also held the Houston Texans to less than 40 yards rushing and 200 total yards last week. So do not count on the running game to help this week. the running game may look more like dinking and dunking short passes to Maroney, Taylor and Faulk.
IN BILL WE TRUST!!
