Found June 22, 2008 on Bleed Eagles Green:
The 2007 Eagles defense was a top-10 unit. The offseason additions of Asante Samuel and Chris Clemons should only improve the defense's ranking. The 2007 defense that was very good could be dominant in 2008. The defensive line boasts two young, promising tackles in Bunkley and Patterson. The ends are lead by Pro Bowler Trent Cole and free agent signee Chris Clemons. Together the two combined for 20.5 sacks in 2007. The quality at the cornerback position is downright scary. Asante Samuel and Lito Sheppard (when healthy) are perennial Pro Bowlers. Sheldon Brown would be a No. 1 cornerback on most teams. The return to health of future Hall of Famer Brian Dawkins should shore up a weak safety unit. Dawkins' leadership and game-changing ability should help make up for the deficiencies of the team's other safeties. The big question mark of the Eagles' defense are the linebackers. The linebackers will need to step up for the defense to achieve success in 2008. Can the linebackers deliver? The first thing you notice about the Eagles' linebackers is the absence of a strong veteran leader. Gone are Jeremiah Trotter and even Takeo Spikes. The veteran of the group is now Rocky Boiman. Rocky who? The name does not bring forth much confidence. Boiman leads the linebacking group with six years of NFL experience. Unfortunately Boiman brings a career high of only 54 tackles in a season. This is not of too much concern as Boiman is scheduled to be a back up this year. But if he is called upon, well then, it's time to worry. The projected starters at linebacker are Stewart Bradley, Omar Gaither, and Chris Gocong. Combined the starters have four years of NFL experience. Bradley, the starting middle linebacker, has one career start. That is not a typo, one career start. An important reserve will be Akeem Jordan. Jordan too is short on experience, having only one year of NFL experience and one career start. The other reserves include Joe Mays, Justin Roland, and Andy Studebaker. Each player is a rookie, making their combined NFL experience zero years! So to summarize, combined, the eight linebackers currently on the Eagles roster have eight years of NFL experience. During crunch time will the young core of linebackers being able to handle the pressure? Can they serve as leaders on the defense? The Eagles are banking on the linebacking unit's vast potential to carry them throughout the season. With the potential comes great speed and big play capability. They can rush the passer, drop back into coverage, and cause the turnover. If the potential of the linebackers does not become a reality, the defense will suffer. When the defense suffers more pressure will be put on the Eagles offense. With McNabb's health already a concern, the pieces could begin to crumble quickly.

  • I think there is a possibility that the LBs are too young. Also, the link doesn't go to the article, which is annoying.
  • my apologies on the link...full article now above...
  • the linebackers will be huge for us. the end of the year showed us that they are ready. Gaither brings alot of game experience from playing alot in his rookie year. Bradley showed he can make plays, he made plays against a saints team with a very good offense. Gocong showe din the pats game he is very versitile and can play in joker situations. i feel this is the best set of linebackers we have had in years. this defense can be down right scary for opposing offenses go birds!!!!
  • these young guys are gonna bring it this year... no studs.. but solid guys that can make plays... perfect for jim johnsons "D"... Im just glad to see TKO gone...
  • on the plus side it is one of the fastest linebacker cores in the league
  • Young is a good thing. Keep in mind the coaching staff has evaluated their linebacking corps, and they made tough decisions based on ability and upside. If the group is young that is only because the eagles did their job during the last couple drafts.
  • Young talent brings fierce competition, however I notice that the younger ones get more false start and offsides calls.
  • They proved themselves end of last year let them prove themselves this year have faith my bro
  • Look at Green Bay that's a young defense

I can't believe I am going to write this?Is it possible that the Eagles have the best set of wide receivers in the NFC East? Yes, the much maligned Eagles receivers are tops in the division. Question: Is lito the CB that we should be trying to trade?

This weekend on the NFL network they had two of the eagles games on, as I watched them I started to see something. Sheldon Brown and not Lito was consistently getting burnt through the air. I mean lets take some time to think about this for a minute, everytime we play the G-men, what does Plaxico do to sheldon? And against the hated cowboys, what does lito do? Not just those games...

D-MAC MISSES HAVING A WEAPON LIKE T.O.!!!!!

"We were a team that was right there, and we were right there consistently," he said. "Then when we brought in a guy like T.O., the attitudes kind of shifted. The defense had that extra confidence because we had somebody like T.O. On offense, we had that extra weapon and we knew we had something. "This year, we're putting in pieces of the puzzle on defense...

Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies: They Just Tease

As a Philadelphia fan we are constantly being teased. Rumors are what they are, just rumors. To be serious contenders the Phillies need pitching help. To be serious contenders the Eagles need help at wide receiver. Bret Myers is not a strong number two arm. Kevin Curtis and Reggie Brown are not strong number one receivers. During the off-season we have heard about the...

Sean Considine: The Next Mahe or Detmer?

2008 looks like the year that Reno Mahe is finally gone (PLEASE DeSean Jackson catch the punts!). Prior to Mahe's departure, the Eagles were able to say goodbye to holding specialist Koy Detmer. Please let Considine be the next Eagle to depart. One of the few training camp battles will be at the safety position. There are currently 6 safeties on the Eagles roster....

I Hate Adrian Peterson.

… And I'll tell you why. He won't be on any of my teams this year. And no, this isn't some lame joke about the dude from Chicago. I'm talking about the Minnesota Adrian Peterson, our ESPN Fantasy Magazine cover boy, the NFL record-holder for single-game rushing, Mr. Seriously Badass. (Side note: If I ever start an '80s cover band, I'm calling it Mr. Seriously...

Big Time Wide Outs, Makin Big Time Noise.

Their situations are different, of course, but whether it's Terrell Owens, Chad Johnson, Plaxico Burress or Javon Walker, it seems like the news on some of the top wide receivers in fantasy just never stops, even during the summer. Not that wide receivers should be hiding in caves to keep out of trouble, but don't any of these well-paid fellas go to some remote island...
