Jake Long? Come on, you haven;t been watching the preseason. He might not be a pro-bowler like Joe Thomas but he will be very good, and Miami's line is no longer putrid, it is average.

If Jake Long has an average year, and falls measurably short of the standard Joe Thomas set last year, it will be a disappointment. He is the highest-paid player in the league at his position.
I do think he will be a good player in the long run, just not this year, especially with the competition he has to face (Adalius Thomas twice, Vernon Gholston twice, Aaron Kampman twice, Patrick Kerney, Shawne Merriman, Mario Williams, etc.)

i don't think matt ryan should be on there.............the falcons are so terrible.......he'll b lucky if he's in one piece after the season. Roy Williams is obvious...he's been terrible the last few years now. Javon Walker is now a crappy version of Jerry Porter

For Matt Ryan and Javon Walker, part of it (but not all) is the contract. Matt Ryan makes more than Tom Brady in salary this year. Also, Ryan's draft spot would fall precipitously if some of next year's QBs were in this year's draft (guys like Tebow, Stafford, Painter).

As for Roy Williams, he should be obvious, but people still gave him a Pro Bowl bid last year.

I don't think it is fair to put two rookies on there who haven't even played a regular season game yet. Long has looked promising and yes, Matt Ryan may be overpaid for a rookie but that is on ATl, not him. They ponyed up the cash to pay him and must feel like it is a good investment. Beside there is no telling how these guys game translates to the pros, they might just come in and be certifiable beasts in the league. i certainly hope that is the case with J. Long.

I'm not putting these guys down. I think Jake Long will eventually be a pretty good, pro-bowl caliber player, though I'm not sold on Matt Ryan. However, based on their situations and perceived abilities (based on what scouts thought coming out of college), they likely won't live up to lofty, "franchise-savior" expectations in their first year.

These are not indictments of the players; just how I think people will react to their seasons. The same thing could have been said of Mario Williams in his first year. He had very few sacks playing with a foot injury and not a lot of help on the defensive line, and was widely considered a disappointment in his first year. Now he's on the cusp of being a superstar.

Asante will not disappoint. He showed some flashes like when he almost got the INT in the Carolina game. The starting defense had two 3 and outs before the break and Asante didnt play after; 1 pass defensed in 6 plays is pretty good in my book
