- Projecting the future performance of rookie football players is a multi-million dollar industry, even outside the league. Websites spend all year scouting, analyzing, and breaking down the NFL rookie pool in time for April's NFL Draft, only for players like Ryan Leaf to become colossal, heart-breaking disappointments for the team that drafted them.
Since we don't have millions of dollars and years of hindsight, we're going to do the next best thing -- use Madden '09's franchise mode to simulate the career of three rookies, attempting to break down their careers by simulating as many seasons as necessary to get them from hotshot rookies to grizzled, broken down veterans. You'll get a glimpse into the AI in Madden's franchise mode in the process. We'll be doing this simulation for Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco, and Darren McFadden, controlling other teams in the franchise mode so that we don't influence the results.
We'll start with the first skill-position player in the draft; Ryan was drafted by the Falcons third overall in this year's draft. His career starts off with a bang and continues on, but injuries eventually derail him.
