Lombardi Ave:
Today is a sad day for football fans everywhere. The news of Steve McNair’s untimely passing was a damper upon every football fan’s Fourth of July festivities. McNair, who was quarterback for both the Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens during his career, was one of the toughest players I have ever seen. Every Sunday, I would search for the Tennessee injury report to see which laundry list of injuries he was playing with that week and then try to tune into that game to see how he did. I was amazed at all the injuries he played through. He and Brett Favre are probably the toughest quarterbacks of their era.
When I first heard the news, I was a little shocked. McNair had fallen off my radar a little bit after retiring from Baltimore, but I expected him to come back into my attention like this. No one has said anything bad about his death, and I’m not sure there is anything bad to say about McNair. Whenever he was quarterbacking the Titans, you knew they were in the game. Just the name, Steve McNair inspired confidence in every Titan fan out there that he would get the job done. Most of the time he did.
Tragedy seems all too common these days, and it’s unfortunate an athlete, especially McNair, had to reach his ends through those means.
