Raiders' Porter Has Change of Attitude, Number

Oakland Raiders' wide receiver Jerry Porter has decided to change his number from 84, to 81. Porter says this is a new start, beginning and a representation of a new attitude.

After the debacle that was last season, which saw the silver and black without Porter and rank at or near the bottom in every offensive statistic, Porter has actually had positive interactions with new head Lane Kifflin and says he is excited in the new direction of the Raiders' offense.

This does not come as a surprise to me. After last season, Porter had to have killed his trade value. After seeing what Owens can do to a team, the NFL has become aware of how one player can become a horrific cance. Porter has to make good with Raiders and show he is a team guy.

If Porter is able to return to the player he has been, and Randy Moss returns healthy the Raiders may be looking at a vastly improved offense. Granted they are still without a quarterback (Aaron Brooks has been released), and the offensive line needs much improvement, with big time receivers running down the field the running game should open up.

Porter and Moss both killed their trade value last season. The Raiders should profit from them having to put up huge numbers to become valuable next year.

That opens up number 84 for "The Freak". I will always remember Randy as 84, not 18.

That should make all the difference with a rookie QB, or Andrew Walter, throwing to them.

I never really understood what happened between Porter and Art Shell. Porter didn't have any problems with Norv Turner when he was there, but it seemed like he and Shell clashed immediately. I'm willing to look past last year and give porter a fresh start with a new coach. I'm much more worried about Moss. They should dump him for whatever they can get. Porter, Curry and Jordan can all be very effective in the pass game.
