Ravens' backup quarterback Troy Smith is apparently sick of sitting the bench behind Joe Flacco, and the Ravens apparently feel as though there will be a market for Smith.

The quarterback asked for a his trade a few months ago, and the Ravens have said they're willing to accommodate if the right offer comes along. It's going to be difficult for them to sell him to another team, considering he has next to zero playing experience in the NFL.

He was very good at Ohio State, however, and his appearance in the National Championship game may be enough for a team to take a chance on him.

The 49ers, Panthers, Rams, Bills, Broncos, Seahawks, Raiders, and Redskins could all have an interest in Smith, but it's purely speculation at this point.

The Ravens would ask for somewhere between a third and fifth round pick, and could get it based on how desperate the calling team is. Of course, with Michael Vick also on the trading block, the Ravens and Eagles could find the price for their quarterbacks drop.

Vick is a known commodity, but Smith seems to have more upside. It's going to come down to preference for a team looking to trade for a quarterback -- that, and whichever guy will come cheaper.

Sypniewski has surgery; not a big deal

Tight end Quinn Sypniewski has had a minor clean-up procedure on his injured knee, but the surgery will not impact his availability this season for the Ravens. Last May, he had surgery to reattach a piece of bone in the knee and...

Room for Ravens defense to get better

Although only a Super Bowl win will satisfy Greg Mattison, the Ravens defensive coordinator could point to significant improvement in his defense as the 2009 season went on. The biggest adjustment the Ravens made was going from a team that would sell out on the blitz in 2008 to a team that blitzed more judiciously in 2009. Here's a starting point when you look at that transformation...

Ravens Positional Review – Special Teams

When John Harbaugh was hired as head coach before the 2008 season, his expertise was special teams. Naturally, Baltimore Ravens fans expected extremely good special teams play from the home team. In 2009, special teams play was solid, not special. Part of the reason for just solid special teams were injuries and a transition and place kicker. Matt Stover's contract expired at...
