Multiple sources confirmed the Bears will release Brandon Rideau, who was battling Rashied Davis and Devin Aromashodu for one of the receiver spots. Rideau had an 18-yard touchdown reception from Brett Basanez in Thursday's 26-23 exhibition victory over the Browns, but that wasn't enough to help him earn a spot on the 53-man roster.

There were no real surprises among the seven players, including quarterback Brett Basanez, signed to the practice squad Sunday, with the possible exception of guard Johan Asiata, an undrafted rookie from UNLV.
The more logical pick would have been offensive tackle Cody Balogh, who spent all of 2008 on the practice squad. But the Bears have one spot remaining, so he’s still a possibility...

The Bears signed seven players to the practice squad Sunday, including Northwestern and St. Viator product Brett Basanez. The quarterback will be available if the Bears need him in an emergency. Jay Cutler and Caleb Hanie are the only quarterbacks on the 53-man roster. One practice spot still remains.
